You'd think someone besides Hornfans posters, perhaps people at Nike, would have figured out by now that black doesn't look good with our colors. Whether it's the socks or those numbers or whatever just please STOP!!! It looks like Halloween out there.
Here we go trying to be Oklahoma State again. What's wrong with what we have? Why are they hell bent on changing the most classic look in college football?
Orange pants and/or black trim look real purty in KnoxVegas or Conoco Tech, but The University of Texas school colors are Burnt Orange and White, not black. These are practice uniforms, which Paul Dietzel changed for most teams when he had his "color scheme" at LSU. It was/is simply to detail which squad you are on today - for Dietzel is was "gold", "white", and of course the infamous "chinese bandits". A few schools all of whom have great tradition have a uniform that should not have any major alterations - Texas, Michigan, USC, LSU, Bama, State Penn, Ohio State, OU. I guess few remember the **** storm DKR created because Fred Akers put two strips down the side of the pants. If you want to see "orange pants", go watch Syr-excuse, Tennessee, Conoco Tech, or some other team dressed like an industrial league softball team.
What's a head coach to do? On other threads, critical of Mack's coaching, a lot is made of VY finally convincing Mack to cut him loose and let him do his thing - and one of his things was the music that surrounded the team at different times. We won a lot, and no one complained. So what if some of these changes are the result of Mack's being convinced to let the team have more say - and maybe the team likes orange pants and orange helmets. Are you going to say - in advance - that we should not make those changes and perhaps deny ourselves the getting better that it might foster? We all know what Darrell Royal said about stripes, but how many times have we heard on here that things are different now? DKR probably would not have liked social media either.
I'm fine with tweaks to the uniforms. I'm not fine with someone's insistence on throwing black in. It looks awful. Even the silver/gray whatever they used to have for basketball was palatable. It's the black. Those practice uniforms look like the hats you can buy at gas stations.
If those pants ever make it on the field then I vote we have this guy lead the team out of the tunnel
They're practice uniforms! I think they look crappy, too, but Mack said a year or two back that he was going to let the team choose their practce uniforms. This is what you get when you rely on 18-22 year olds' fashion sense. However, I have no problem with them as practice uniforms. If anything, it will make them feel more classy when they come out in their game uniforms.
Granted there is an effort required to take photos or film and get the color right when translated to video streaming or simple web page element. But these colors are way off. More like Okie-State. Here is a comparison. I set the flat color to #CC5500 and not the RGB numbers. Photoshop. The patch on the left is a majority tone taken by a Photoshop eye-dropper. The flat color below is set by me on Photoshop. And here is the clip from the University's web page on how to use color in various mediums (media?). Notice how the black and white vibrate more in the lower half of this image using the true Burnt Orange, compared to the soft vibration of the upper hue. If some kind of uniform along these styles were made using the best possible rendition of True Burnt Orange ... it would not be that bad. But the True Burnt Orange has to be there. It requires an effort to get it right given any media ..ie., texture and type of material. Glossy plastic is not the same as cloth, and that means different kinds of cloth material. Or shoes.
You see that? Nothing in the world looks like that. I love the look of PMS 159 in the morning... It looks like... VICTORY!
