So would it cover anti-depressants like Zoloft and Prozac? Wow that would cover a lot of pretty normal folks who actually may need guns for self-protection. We're all at some point along the mental health continuem and frankly a lot of people getting help are more together than a lot of people who aren't.
To a layman typically disinterested in gun laws so long as I can have a shotgun, a deer rifle and target practice .22, what is so important to the gun show loophole? To me it looks like such an easy route to circumvent background checks renders background checks impotent. But I know there must be more to the story, Could someone fill me in on why it's so important to have easy transfer of guns with no background checks? I'm not a gun-hating moron but I do think the "arm everybody and justice will win out" philosophy is deficient in that typically unstable people are more prone to violence and better at it than the people I have lunch with after church. It would be more effective and simpler to just put everyone that shouldn't have a gun into a "No Buy" database. This keeps crazy people and criminals from purchasing guns legally but lets everyone else purchase them without any type of registration.

An employee assistance company executive once told me the average employer work force will have more than 50% on mind altering medications prescribed by a physician often not a mental illness professional. As for national lists, I was once on the TSA terrorist list as we're many airlines executives. It was obviously a mistake, but it was impossible to remove. No thanks on the list idea.

I amy be wrong but I thought that all 'vendors" at gun shows DIDdo background checks on purhasers made at a gun show. I thought the issue was with private gun owners making a sale to anothre private fun owner at the show I have heard BO say the ' gun show loophole" represents 40% of sales. It is not actually a gun show loophole since private owners selling to private buyers ANYWHERE are not required to do background checks. and How would anyone know it is 40%? Now if someone wants to bring a bill requiring private sellers to do background checks that should be considered, But call it what it is
My understanding of the law is that anyone with a Federal Firearms License must conduct background checks prior to sale. Texas does not have a law requiring background checks for sales at gun shows. However, I think if one has a Federal Firearms License, any sale requires a background check even if the sale occurs at a gun show. If anyone has info to the contrary, please post.
Crockett. A 65 yr. old jewish ex-army dentist who is a friend of mine, considers gov't tyranny to be a major issue. He had plenty of relatives die in Auschwitz and Belzec. He knows some jews fought back and were fairly successful in places like Warsaw. He also knows that the 2nd amendment was put into place in major part to provide a balance to gov't tyranny. In fact, the Republic was set up in such a manner to limit the power of federal gov't. Historically, totalitarian regimes have passed gun control legislation, which was later followed by confiscation, with Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany during World War II (as well as some communist states) being well known examples. From my friend's perspective, he feels that registering guns allows the federal gov't to confiscate guns. He does not want this. He feels that guns are a necessity for him and his family to be able to protect itself.
I did not even think about if someone has ever taken psychotropics. Well, that would basically mean nobody could own a gun. Got to give Obama props, he knows ways of achieving single payor and gun control right past the below average IQ voters.
