No seat expansion .... yet. Not in this article, but when / if the new campus med school is built, it will displace the Drum and its south parking, and the tennis courts as well as the park area south of the courts. (Per another AA-S article this week).
The Regents have to approve how the AD spends their own money. Same sort of BS process yet maybe needed when it comes to grants. A professor procures a grant and the University, after taking half of the money, then approves or disapproves how they spend it and on what.
Goose, you are correct. Today's Statesman said the med school was approved yesterday but the Drum won't be demolished and relocated for 6 to 15 yrs.
While the AAS link by the OP shows that most of the funds are for adding academic offices in Bellmont and the relocation of womens athletic facilities in the in the basement of the north end zone structure this decision by the ROR was an expansion of three previous budget decisions 2010- $17.7M, 2012 $37M for a total of $62M for 2013. The Alcalde article showing the master plan for the medical school district is much more interesting. Expansion of 4.5M gross sq foot of building and the consversion of most of todays surface parking to office, hospital, and garage in 15+ years. The green areas and asphalt areas from 26th St Dean Keaton the 12th street become office/hosptal/parking structures. Just about every surface tailgate spot from 26th to 12th street will become a structure. A rendition of the enclosed south endzone is included as part of future Athletic Master Plan see pages 27 and 28 for the Existing and Proposed 15years plans.
I also read somewhere that they would be using the parking lot at Disch-Falk to store a lot of the construction equipment effectively taking away another tailgating spot.
You know what, SomeMildLanguage, I think you are on to something. Very valid point and I agree. This could make it better and less spread out.
