What happened to Bucky? He was on air yesterday and today, Rod Babers is sitting in and they are bringing in a new guy tomorrow. Madani is moving to the afternoon Sports Buffet with Babers and Way.

I was wondering the same thing on my way into work this morning. It looks like he got fired. I found this tweet from him last night.

I see. The Zone, apparently, kicked the most knowledgeable and experienced host to the curb after all those years. Anyone know more? Everything seemed normal yesterday.

I hope and trust it does not have anything to do with anything alcohol, first and foremost. I have no info or reason to believe it does. I state that out of like for the man and a great respect for his fight. So as a fan I hope it has nothing to do with that.

The morning show, imho, was by far their only good locally generated show. I tried to listen to Craig Way and Babers but between Craig's long stories and the latters chatter and voice/delivery and laugh, no way. Madani was fine.

I hope that this does mean a reuniting of Hogan and Bucky or that Bucky lands on his feet and goes on to great success.

The only time I will now listen to the Zone in the day is for the Dan Patrick Show. I have zero interest in what they do local, just like when they brought in those clowns before.

Mike Taylor starts tomorrow. Don't know anything about the guy.

The guy will have an uphill battle from the beginning. If Buck is going to end up with Erin, the sooner they make it happen the better. Some people may give this new guy a shot and the longer he's off the radio the less attached people may be. Strike while the iron is hot.

I wonder how the regulars will treat the new guy on the phone or if they will even take calls at all.

Mike Taylor was in Dallas for years and for the last several years has been on 760 radio in San Antonio. Bounced around starting in the PM and now has a morning program but if he's going to be on the Austin station, I guess he is gone from SA. Okay, but not a shining light.

I ran across something suggesting he would do the show in both markets at the same time. I have seen mixed reviews on him which is what would be expected. Nobody is perfect for everybody.

I'd be curious what the S.A. people thought.

Not the case, Loop. I just found this on the 760 website, timestamped yesterday.

Whew, good to know. I was afraid Clear Channel was going to try to maybe link all four big cities up (Houston, Dallas, Austin and S.A.) in the future with a one size fits all type program.

Never heard of the guy either and I agree he's going to have big popular shoes to fill without much talent alongside to help. I love Way as a announcer for games and he's very informed on his sports. Madani is okay but better with enhancement from Bucky, imho.

Pogo, this is what I was talking about so I hope your info is right and this is wrong.

BUCKY GODBOLT has exited the station, and is being replaced by a simulcast of sister Sports KTKR-A (TICKET 760)/SAN ANTONIO morning host MIKE TAYLOR's show 6-8a (CT). The change will take place THURSDAY (5/23)

I only caught the last 5 minutes of the show this morning, but it certainly sounded to me like it was on in both Austin and San Antonio.

This was confirmed from a friend of mine who said he tried to listen for awhile but couldn't. Said it was pretty bad. Maybe the guy was nervous or something, who knows. He has an uphill battle trying to replace Bucky especially if they mistreated Buck somehow. Don't know if they did or not.

I won't listen till Dan Patrick comes on which is now at 8.

I hardly ever post unless I have something to say... I usually read HornFans for information (mostly a lurker I guess).

I live in Frisco now and the Sports Radio in DFW is primarily geared toward the local pro sports teams (Cowboys, Rangers, Stars, & Mavs), which is understandable.

I listen to AM 1300 The Zone for Austin sports personalities to get my insight & information on the Horns by listening through my iHeart Radio app and also listen to ESPN Austin for the same reason. I don't care much about the pro teams as I do the Horns. That being said, I am a native of San Antonio and am a huge Spurs fan. Next to the Horns, my allegiance lies with my Spurs and I love watching them on TV and listening to radio for San Antonio sports perspectives.

If I want to hear SA sports radio stuff, I tune in to 760 The Ticket, WOAI, or whatever. I can't believe AM 1300 The Zone got rid of Bucky like this! I commute to work in the 6 o'clock hour to be in the office by 7 and enjoyed listening to Bucky's insights and perspectives, especially since he was the former UT running backs coach. Madani was okay, but Bucky was the main reason I listened each day...

Much to my dismay, they put the guy on 760 from SA on in that slot, so now Austin hears the guy from SA. Wow! How brilliant. Unless you're a big Spurs fan like me, I doubt Austin cares to hear a SA sports radio guy and SA traffic reports! [IMG]

Now I am SOL to hear opinions on Longhorns-related topics on my drive in. Mike & Mike do nothing for me on ESPN and I could give a flying crap what they think about anything.

I wish the best for Bucky and of couse, we can only guess as to what went down in this decision. IMHO this is a terrible decision by The Zone. At the very least, I can only hope this is a temporary solution, because I believe Austin needs a local sports talk morning show opposite the toolbags that are Mike & Mike on ESPN.

    Disgruntled in Dallas... [IMG]

100 days until kickoff... sigh... but Go Spurs Go! I will tune in to SA radio if I want to hear stuff on the Spurs. Get a clue Clear Channel... Austin & San Antonio are NOT THE SAME! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I heard the guy this morning and was not impressed.

Bucky was good and bad, sometimes he just made **** up and then sometimes he was right on.

Can't stand Babers, that dude has got to go.

I used to listen to the Ticket in Dallas as Gordon Keith is one of the funniest people alive. Miller is a douche and George was fun. Didn't care for all the pro talk, like the local flavor in Austin with all the Homer type Longhorn talk.

I agree Babers is hard to listen to most of the time. He's pretty loud and obnoxious. I hope my Spurs knock off Memphis and then the Heat in the NBA Finals just so I can tune in to hear how sad he will be after hearing his constant Lebron lovefest drivel.

Sometimes the guys on The Ticket in Dallas are pretty funny. But overall, I enjoyed listening to Austin shows to hear about the Horns, now we don't have that option for a morning show. So sad... I hope Bucky gets another gig somewhere else. As others have said, I agree he would be a good addition to The Big Show with Erin Hogan and Sean Adams on ESPN Austin in the afternoons. Who knows what will happen...

Oh well, I am happy to finally have LHN after switching to U-verse earlier this month right after it became available in my neighborhood so I guess I should shut the hell up - can't have it all, I guess. [IMG]

Clear Channel's first mistake was low-balling Erin Hogan. ESPN radio in Austin scooped him up. He brought some pals (Hastings, etc.) with him and started taking over the ratings from 1300. Now that ESPN owns the LHN, the new ownership group at ESPN radio is setting themselves up to be the next UT sports flagship station. They ditched the OB guys and Sean Adams is pulling double duty (radio and LHN). I believe Bucky will reunite with Erin in the new future. Then, when the contract is up, ESPN radio will get the new deal and bring Craig Way over. Clear Channel might as well shut down 1300 at that point. It's only a matter of time.

I listen to those guys every morning. It's good enough that I keep listening, but not way past that. Madani is really pretty good, even though dry. Isn't he the station manager? Anyway, I do like Bucky.

What is ironic is that just a couple of days ago, there was some conversation about what Bucky would do if he got let go. Can't quite remember it, but it was something like a caller saying he wished Bucky would come back and coach the Longhorns, and Bucky saying no, whenever this radio thing was over, whether 15 years from now, or, he said, who knows, someone could think I'm too old for this any day now (or something like that)...anyway, he said he'd just hang it up. Madani was saying no, and saying, you never know what you might want to do in the future, and Bucky was saying no, this is it for me.

I may have garbled that conversation in my memory, because it meant nothing at the time, but now, just a few days later, it makes me wonder whether Madani, or maybe Bucky, too, knew something was up.

Pogo is probalby correct. Untill that happens, I like the idea of a Craig Way and Mandani match up. I like Babers too when they stay on a sports topic. I do not like all of the other talk which is suppose to be geared to men. Not grown men anyway. Give the stripper music a break!

Bucky on LHN? Wish I could watch on dtv. [IMG]

I used to listen through iheart every morning as well. Starting at 7. Not now. I also really like Barbers. I think the guy is hilarious and knowledgeable about football.

I tried to listen today. I found the guy to be really boring, overly pushing the Spurs (and I like the Spurs, a lot!) and scattered with his ideas. He was just not very good.

I feel sorry for the guy because Clear Channel has put him in a bad position. A position to fail. Yup, it's all NPR in the morning till Dan Patrick comes on, no flipping back and forth.

I ask because I truly don't know. Has the dust settled? Was this guy boring and idiotic just in the beginning to sort of show off or being uncomfortable? I have moved on to just NPR in the mornings and while moderately tempted to quickly listen, I can't, he just really sucked when I gave him a chance.

Anybody still listen? Any new news on where or if Bucky lands on the radio again here in Austin? I hope so. I loved him on the radio and he seems like a good guy. Football season loses some luster without him and what he brings.

Mike Taylor still sucks... I just listen to shows in Dallas in the morning on my way to the office. I'm curious as to where Bucky lands. Hopefully someone will post when they find out.

Bucky Godbolt we hardly knew ye. [IMG]
