Just announced he won't run for re-election. It is time to get someone in office that is friendlier to The University of Texas.

The University survived Bill Clements and now has survived Rick Perry. It is time to get a Lt Governor that will restore the power to that office and let the Governor get back to attending social functions.

    Thank you Mr Rowling

    Diablo,

Why the hell would Ted leave a valuable, purpose serving office at the US Senate to become a "function attender" and glad hander in Austin? Not even the leading Democrats will run for that office. They are all lined up to run against Cornyn.

I'm more concerned about getting a Lt Governor that has the balls to run the Senate rather than it running him.

He's going to hole up for two years and study the world so that he doesn't appear to be such a dumbass during the next presidential campaign.

I think he's going to be the Koch brothers candidate if he gains any kind of momentum during the primaries.

Greg Abbott will be next Gov
I don't think there is any love lost between Abbott and Dewhurst.

    Bevo,

The only way to keep Rick Perry from looking like the dumbass he is would be to lock him in a closet and throw away the key.

As for Abbott being the next Governor, great! He can go to all the social functions and fund raisers, s long as he doesn't get the wild idea that he really has some importance. Maybe then we can get an AG that can win a case and/or argue the law.

    Sabre?
The state of Texas has won many many cases even in this leftist climate.

I have been a pretty big perry detractor over the years. Very happy to see him go, but not excited about the likely candidates to replace him. The top republicans in Texas are grossly bought and paid for, even by politician standards. I'll guess that Abbott will be next and that we will have the same complaints.

    6721,

Not to be argumentative, but what case has Abbott ever won? I suggest you walk the halls of some of our larger law firms and listen to those discussions,

I'll leave you with this, I'd rather be represented by V&E than by Abbott. Again, has V&E won a single large case in the last 35 years?

Maybe we'll get lucky and David Beck will retire and decide to be AG. Then again, maybe David will take the position as head of our law school. [IMG]

Perry's not going to use his good looks and the sterling reputation of building the Texas economy to run for president? Damn, what a waste. We're missing out on a lot of laughs.

Actually, I think the only thing, besides radical right politics, holding back a Perry presidential candidacy would be something that drugs could fix. If only we could take ALZ-113 from the world of fiction and make it a real drug.

Exactly, Deez. And the first thing he did as AG was to lead the fight to change the tort laws to stop those very same type of lawsuits. Think he gave any money back to the insurance company? Yeah right. He is a hypocrite.

The stain of Perry on Texas can only be removed by someone like Wendy Davis, imo. Hopefully, with texas turning into a minority-majority state, we can FINALLY have a progressive win the governorship. [IMG]

    Roger,

If Wendy Davis runs for Governor, we'll know that blonde hair is real. She and Castro are the future of the Democrat Party in Texas - at least for the near future. I don't see either of them running for that office, when a dead man could beat Cornyn next go round.

FWIW, I am a Republican, but also a realist.

JC is not very popular among the Tea Party or the conservative groups in Texas, see Ted Cruz vs. David Dewhurst.

Everyone considering voting for Abbott for any office should read Deez' post above. Excellent.

Abbott's actions (described above) remind me of the guy who climbs the ladder and then pulls the ladder up so that no one else can make the climb.
