If anyone in one of the 25 "stand your ground" states wants to hear fat, old Stevie Wonder's stuff , you'll have to tune in to you oldies station or whoop out that 8-track you've been saving. Wonder said: "I decided today that until the Stand Your Ground law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again," Wonder told the crowd. "As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world." The Link Save your money for the next Ted Nugent tour instead. Support a Rock-N-Roller that supports America.
It has been a long, long time since Wonder was relevant. He's trying to exploit TM just as the NAACP, Sharpton, Holder, Obama, and all libs are.
Eh...it's his choice to make a political statement. At least in this case he's putting his $$$ where his mouth is unlike many celebrities.
I've always liked Stevie Wonder's music. It's a shame he turned a blind eye to Texas. Maybe he will see things differently in the future.
dh not bad so if you go to his tour schedule for 2013 he is playing in NY and Brasil. not that he needs the money but it doesn't look like his grand gesture costs him anything I wonder if he realized that in Florida Blacks have benefited much more using the stand your ground law than whites he'd change his tune?
Bruce Springsteen too. I find that I have to separate my appreciation for an artists music and their political beliefs.
I'm finding it hilarious that to date George Zimmerman and his attorney's haven't utilized the Stand your Ground laws. They are likely to try and get a hearing on it now as it prohibits civil cases in Florida. However as of today they utilized self defense which last I looked you have a right (to varying degrees) in all 50 states. I also would like to know if Stevie Wonder is another one of these celebrities who is against guns except for the one(s) his security men are carrying?
I've admired Wonder's musical gifts, which are extraordinary. The criticism seems a little wrongheaded, but think think "stand your ground laws" are an idea that could use a little work. I heard a talking head (conservative black guy) who said that the stand your ground defense in Florida has been abused by drug gangsters in killing other drug gangsters. I'm not a Ted Nugent music fan, but he did impress me with his showmanship at a concert 30 years ago, swinging out of the rafters in some sports arena.
Stand your ground was discussed twice during jury deliberations according to juror B37 and was used word for word in one section of the directions the judge offered to the jury upon entering deliberations. I'm no lawyer but believe a law doesn't have to be cited by the defense to apply. Now...Stevie wonder is sacrificing cash by refusing to perform in the 21 states that have the law if he follows through on his convictions.
The Stones are the only group from that list I would pay to see. Although "I wish" by Stevie is a great song, I wouldn't much care to watch him perform. I did catch Earth Wind & Fire last month........fyi. Awesome show they put on! Highly recommend if thats your tatse. Great percussionists in the group.
I am willing to wager a cool fifty bucks he will be playing shows in most of these states within the next 18 months. The merciful thing about celebrities is that they have the attention span of a three year old child. If we had to hear them actually prattle on endlessly ala Sean Penn, the populace would have long since gone insane.
On a side note, I've been boycotting Sears for so long I don't even remember why. It's probably time to pay them a visit again.
