Got it. Makes perfect sense. So ESPN backtracks if aggy agrees to not sue.
Aggy says 'nothing to see here, move along', and we are getting back to
the Sherrill days of aggy malfeasance. These boyz r fitting right in with the SEC.
    Play ball.

The NCAA needs to be dismantled. Not just because of this but because they have become useless and more of a problem. They are virtually toothless when it comes to legal matters unless evidence is right in front of their face. Some schools get in trouble, others don't. Their very lack of subpoena power demonstrates a major shortcoming of theirs.

They need to be torn down and a new version created that will actually provide the function they started out to do.

I agree with you 100%. The first thought that I had was that I need to talk with a friend that is a big gun in a major Vegas book. There has got to be a decent proposition bet, somewhere in Vegas, that will quote odds on whatever may become of the NCAA.

I don't know if it will be 5 years, or 10 years, but the NCAA is living on borrowed time - at least in it's present form.

Dennis Dodd at CBS has written several articles on the NCAA's inevitable demise in conjunction with the emergence of a "Division 4" in college football.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby appears to be on board.

Division 4 to revolutionize college athletics

Who can possibly believe Manziel would sign that many balls for sports merchandisers for nothing? And be caught on tape saying that it never happened? Who believes that?

Nobody believes it. But there has to be some burden of proof that the NCAA must meet.

He beat the rap, fair and square. The issue is decided. A&M and Manziel are almost as innocent as Auburn and Cam Newton (Just a half a game suspension more consequences.)

Obsession about fairness can really be a bummer, so I'm moving on.

Congrats to aggy; he beat the rap. "deserve" got nothing to do with it. somebody save that lawyer's business card -- might be a good # for the rolodex now that old Johnny Cochran is underground

Compare to Dez Bryant, who was not so "lucky"! And he is mad - not necessarily at Manziel, but at the NCAA for being so unfair and inconsistent in its rulings!

Dez Bryant - 4 games into the season ruled ineligible for LYING to NCAA officials - lying! Read this article:

Kabongo got punished for lying too. JM must not have ever changed his story

In other words, he never told the truth! That's my instinct - and one day, one day, there will be some kind of payback.

I'm thinking Dez Bryant probably didn't have an attorney versed in NCAA laws coaching him through what and what not to say. The Manziels played this very well.

When it gets right down to it, it's the same as in the justice system ... money buys acquittals, regardless of guilt, in far too many cases.

aggy yet again moves along with another cheater and a fan base whose reaction is "who gives a ****." They made Jackie Sherill the first million dollar coach and were crying foul like babies after he got fired. Their stance on JM all along has been "who gives a ****, prove it." I'd like to think that if a Texas player was accused of the same thing with the same evidence that we'd have enough sense to know that our player was guilty and be wary of the consequences.

Of course this is the same fan base that publicly cheered when Colt McCoy got hurt in the 2006 aggy game (nicknaming him Cart McCoy) and MNC game. No class.

The truth, though, is that it always catches up to your program, ie Ohio St., USC. It may not be today or tomorrow but at some point in the future aggy will be vacating their 2013 season.

the insistence on proof of him receiving actual money is silly. everybody who's he must have been given or promised something for his time. for example it could be money to a friend or family member, a service, an object, or a promise to provide good(s)/service later. i personally don't see why the ncaa apparently thinks they needed a bank deposit at a justification for banning him from college sports. the guilt is apparent. > 4000 signature for dealers he didn't know personally and no reward, no possible way that can be believed.

I struggle to understand why he has seemingly been declared "innocent". Ok, there's no proof now, but who's to say that further information won't emerge later.

It seems like the NCAA put this to bed because it didn't want to distraction or embarrassment. I think they should have left it an open item.

We make fun of Aggies, but the bottom line is, they're family members, they were shipmates when I was in the service, they're our veterinarians, and they're Texans. Manziel is a mockery of an Aggie and the Aggie Honor Code. I feel bad for Aggies because they deserve a better representative than this douce. I feel bad for his teammates having to deal with this selfish QB for hazarding they're season...they deserve a better leader.

That said, while there is NO WAY he didn't take any financial benefits, there has to be integrity in the investigation and punishment process. If a smoking gun is required, then that's what's required. The NCAA themselves has to live up to some sort of honor code in this process.

I don't think this is then end of this though. He's a grade A moron. There's no way he's covered all his tracks. Someone will come forward with more information, this video of him talking about taking in the past will surface, an LSU or Alabama booster will finance some PI to expose him.

Johnny Football is running a special on his autograph tomorrow during the first half of the aggy game with Rice. He will be available at the visitors 50 yard line, bring your own memorabilia, he will have a sharpie. This is the first and only time he will not be accepting payment.
