This is it. I've been an apologist for the coach and coordinators, but this one game has just shattered any hope I had. Even if the rest of this season goes well, a game like this should never happen. Diaz is now out of his depth, and I now have to question more than ever Mack's judgment and his leadership.
THIS IS IT!!! who do we get....done with MACK....that is all...not sure Applewhite is all that either... MANNY....find the closest door and exit... THIS is NOT LONGHORN FOOTBALL you were NOT able to get it together...didn't happen....
Your honesy Dovey317 is beyond refreshing and you are to be commended for it. There are several other posters that should be here too. You know who you are. All the lectures and calling people haters for being realists instead of delusional. Saying we would go undefeated and win the MNC. This team hasn't been able to tackle for over two seasons now and we can't run the ball on any decent defense. We do less with more and it's never been more evident than now. It's time for major changes in this team and the athletic program as a whole. The basketball team has imploded and the baseball team also sets records for futility. It's time for accountability from the top down and that includes Bellmont.
Diaz should be gone before the plane lands in Austin. Start with that and lets see how rest of year goes with rest of the staff.
I'm not sure this is Rout 66, but this is one of those games that will be remembered for a long time. They were beyond embarrassed by a one dimensional offense. Gave up historic stats. We have a running team that can't run the ball. If they lose the players, this is a game that can put this program back years. This program might be back in 2010. Depressing.
If 63-21, 55-17, 65-13, and 63-14 aren't sufficient to get anyone on this staff fired, then I'm not sure what is. Maybe if Mack were implicated in a murder investigation? Other than that, I'm really not optimistic. It's readily apparent that there is no accountability in this program anymore.
There was an idiot who just emotionally asked Erin and Bucky just now "Who would we get to replace Mack?" as if Mack is all we can get... why are their so many emotional idiots supporting this guy? It must be his friends calling in....
The thing (besides any of the hundreds of examples on the field that were FUBAR) I noticed the most was Diaz's demeanor on the sideline. I'm sure he is a tremendous man. But he is a tremendous man that seemed to lack any confidence and lost all credibility with his players. As he greeted his players coming off the field, he seemed flush and panicked as if he believed his players now saw through him and lost confidence in him as a leader. I think he's lost the team and he knows it. I feel for him, but he needs to be removed.
I don't get the "I feel for him" line. I know people who lost their $45k a year job for some sort of centralization reason and they worked hard. Diaz is getting paid a rich man's salary and it's too bad that he is failing. No sympathy.
bystander, give me a break. "I don't get the I feel for him line?" Next time I'll be sure and say something like, "SICK THE DOGS ON HIM AND DON'T LET HIM UP UNTIL THERE"S NOTHING LEFT TO GET UP." You go ahead and have no sympathy. And yes he's making thousands, but the guy is probably rock bottom right now. So I don't give a damn if you "don't get" that line. I feel for him, but still think he should go.
Diaz has to go. Mack has to go. Seeing Diaz wander around the sideline looking lost gets me pissed. Pissed at Mack. He brought this record-breaking clown back for another year! He had so little confidence, he brought Robinson in to look over his shoulder at 6 figures for assurance!!! As far as CEOs go, Mack fails. Even as far as unethical, incompetent, self-serving insulated CEOs go, Mack bombs. But I agree, in the meantime, it would be nice to see Diaz get unceremoniously let go. We want our ******* defense back.
Maybe Diaz getting fired tomorrow would be good for the defense. "If you play like ****, you won't be starting anymore." Second team could not be any worse.
Listen to y'all - have any of you tried to play football at high altitudes?!?! It's almost impossible to breathe. Not mention that this BYU team will surprise A TON of teams this year. I'm shocked they aren't ranked. I'm disappointed that we lost, but Mack has a plan!! .....[7 Iron laughs maniacally then jumps off a skyscraper to his death] All is lost. Kill me now.
I have been a Mack supporter and thought he could turn this thing around. I was WRONG! To replace Mack we will have to vote with our dollars since that is what makes this program tick. Empty seats and low merchandise sales until Mack is gone.
I predict a raise and contract extention for MB (he will have to fire a couple of assistants for this to happen!) BANK IT....
I had a long difficult day Saturday; worked my *** off out in the sun, grabbed a quick bite and a beer and headed home to catch the game. Yes, tired, but still it was the Horns on the tube. I went to bed with about 5 minutes to go in the 2nd period. I had enough. Been watching the Horns for, oh, 45 years. Just got bored last night watching a "team" with every resource on the planet look like a high school team against a non-ranked team. I guess what really turned me last night was after BYU's QB had just run for ANOTHER long TD in which Texas' "Wave Defense" (you know, the opponents run by and our defenders just wave at them as the score). The camera showed Mack Brown, Manny Diaz, and Duane Akina talking on the sideline. Well, actually Mack seemed to be lecturing/questioning Diaz with something like: "What the f**k was THAT?" and turned to unload on Akina who seemed to respond to Mack right in his face with: "HEY, I have been telling you all along, don't blame me god damn it!!" Hey, I'm sure the Jumbotron works, Lowell Galindo will gush about how Texas last night (....fill in some meaningless statistic of improvement of yards gained passing on second down versus last week or some such ****), Mack is working on some other donor to get millions from so that we can have a "John Doe Concession Stand at Joe Jamail Field at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium." I'm just losing interest in UT football. It's not my fault. It's UT football's fault. And whose fault is that?
I'll admit to not knowing enough about coaching football to have an answer to the quarterback runs. I watched Vince Young do the same thing to a lot of defenses. But I believe there are coaches somewhere who could look at what was happening, adjust reads or adjust schemes and slow down a running offense. I'm used to seeing teams get repeatedly gashed, go to the sideline, and come back with an answer.
This is not really a "if one game could get a coach fired" scenario. Diaz should've been gone after least year's record-breaking performance(s). Never understood why he was brought back.
If you know Mack, Manny will lose all of his responsibilities but be kept on the sttaff and continue to collect a paycheck.
Unfortunately for us Mack’s ego and selfishness is going to kill our program for the years to come. Mack is clearly lost. He has never been a very good on-field coach and has always relied on his assistants. Somewhere around 2007/2008 his coaches started mailing it in and we have been a sinking ship since. Mack has no clue what to do with our program. After the Bama loss, Mack declares that we are going to be a power running team, a few years later he decides we are going to be a hurry up. Throughout that span we have some of the absolutely worst offensive lines I have ever seen at Texas. Now thanks to Diaz our defense has become a laughing stock and embarrassment. Diaz is lost, a failure, an embarrassment. Our defensive unit started the game unprepared, and most telling was not able to make any kind of half time adjustment. At the post game press conference Diaz looked like he was about to cry. There was a clip of our defensive players screaming at each other and pushing teammates who were clearly lost in last night’s game. The players were lost, confused, and obviously not ready to stop a pretty one dimensional offense. As a die hard fan, I would find it hard to look into a recruits face and tell them that they should go to Texas. In all honesty if BYU is signs of things to come, Mack is about to leave Texas in worse shape than when he arrived. Unfortunately, Mack’s ego will not allow him to resign. I hope I am wrong and this team can turn things around, but I am skeptical that this staff can right this ship.
Mack is a general manager and over all a very good one but these recent teams have looked more like Mackovic era product. When we hired him I asked if anybody remembered our Sun Bowl win over his North Caroliona team: we started just pounding them up the middle and he never figured out what to do and we won. A couple of years later and he's our coach. I thought of that game last night. That was a nice tackle on their punt returner, wasn't it?
