Is it Major's fault...?

...that the OL can't run block or pass block against a non-rated team? Not one of these guys will get drafted.

The program has cratered and the whole mess needs to be carpet bombed. No prisoners.

Well, yes and no. It's his offense whether he recruited these guys or not. I can't imagine Searels would want to stick around, even if it wad to accept a lesser job somewhere else.

    Too early to tell.

I do know that we aren't going to win **** with either Ash or McCoy. Not really sure why the coaching staff hasn't figured this out. I guess they think that we can win DESPITE the level of QB play.

We were too bad for it to be all the fault of any single person, but it's partially Major's fault.

No. It's Mack Brown's fault. End of story. We have gotten crazy scapegoating anything we can to avoid the unpleasant truth; Nick Saban killed Mack Brown.

^^^This.....the ultimate responsibility is on the head man, not the underlings, although **** flows downhill and picks up speed.

The OL straight sucks. They can't keep Ash from getting pressured by a 3 man rush. Pitiful.

I'll admit I want Major to succeed. Having said that, the playcalling looked lost last night most of the time.

I thought the use of Overstreet on that one play was evidence of that. After getting the run stuffed all night, they are going to try the wildcat with a largely untested back on a short yardage play like that. Let him try to pass the ball or better yet, let Ash try to pass the ball. what made them think they were going to convert a 1st down in that situation running the ball. This OL sucks. This team is not good enough to straight up run the ball on obvious run situations.

What happened to the inverted wishbone or POD formation that they showed in the first game?

They looked so damn bad trying to run the ball....this is one of those games where if you found out later on that BYU was being tipped the plays, you'd say..."OH now that makes sense." Problem is they weren't.

Until drastically proved otherwise (and last night ain't it), I consider Major a natural born genius of sorts regarding football. It may need some maturing or adjustment, but it doesn't need to be turned on. He (and Akina) are the only cogs in this wobbly wheel that I would retain.

I believe that if you give Major an good organization and talent on the field,he will give you what you want.

The tired writing was on the wall when Mack hired Benny Wiley to overhaul the physicality of the team and then somehow Woof Dog was still at the forefront of everything training involved and beyond. If I see another Mad Puppy chant video I may throw up on myself.

It's the same old Jerry Jones mentality around here. We claim huge changes are made, throw out a few new names for a cover story, and it's the same tired people whispering the soft mentality shots. I fully believe Muschamp saw this and couldn't stand another second of it. Not to say he's faring any better as he's a born coordinator not head coach, but at least he's good at his defensive craft.

Agree with Sip94. The wild horn call was absurd. Major is not mature enough to be in the position he holds. Three more years of seasoning maybe.

Somebody better know where responsibilities fall in this thing. I honestly don't join the offensive line criticism. I didn't see players getting manhandled, just confused and uncertain.

The play calling or coaching is a problem. When JG runs the wild horn, we know there will be a fake handoff that everybody in the stadium knows is fake. Then he's plunge into the middle of the formation and get tackled behind the line. When there were several angles to cover, the Wild Horn worked. It now presents as much mystery as an Encyclopedia Brown book you've already read three times.

Poor tackling and taking bad angles has more to do with this teams poor play than anything Major is doing. That defense is pathetic.

Major is next to go. Offense only scored 21 last night. Too many 3 and outs. And of course, the offensive line has sucked for several years. We will see.

The fact that the Oline can't block falls squarely on the man making the most money on the Texas sideline.

Of course Major bears significant responsibility. We should have been able to score 30+ on byu, and at least have made it a shoot out.

Major called a bizarre game, ignoring the short outs available all game and not abusing the slow, unathletic DB's our WR's faced. All those QB draws, especially in the 2nd half were a giant waste and led to Ash getting injured.

Also, why was Daje starting? The guy is a perfect spot player, slot receiver, motion man and occasional RB. Finally, Malcom Brown deserves more time. He is the best receiving RB, best blocking RB, and has the best combination of speed, power and balance of any of our backs. Jonathan Gray has speed and little else it seems. Gray goes down easier (ankle tackles, arm tackles, etc) and shows less balance than Brown, and seems unable to make anyone miss. Especially in the hole when a cutback is available to extend the play. His vision seems lacking.

    Major has not a clue....ZERO

....his co-ed involvement should have lost him his job. I have ZERO respect for "Opie"....any "man" that would do that to his "expecting" wife isn't worth a flip....trust me, I'm old and I know this from years of observation....no a flip...!!! [IMG]

Agree with what caryhorn said. It was a disappointing day by the offense, nothing like what happened defensively, but still... major bears some responsibility. BYU's hurry-up offense clicked pretty darned well.
One thing that really bothered me was running Daje Johnson up the middle, resulting in his (bad?) injury. This guy is an Eric Metcalf type, and should be used accordingly. He ain't no Steve Worster.
Also, we have a lot riding on David Ash, and maybe he should scramble some, but repeated qb sneaks and draws...too risky.

    JBravo,

You do realize that if 120 other OCs can, too, then you're just affirming what I said about Major.

It's his fault he called a terrible game and ran a stupid play that got his QB hurt.

The guy is not a legitimate major-program OC. Never was.

Mack Brown deserves most of the blame for what happened to the defense. How in the heck can this defense expect to perform well in higher altitude when the offense keeps going three and out for the most part. Mack knew it would be tough on the guys because he even trained for it over the summer with those silly masks. But yet, he kept running the same fast paced offense that was off the field after 30 seconds. How is the defense supposed to get a second wind that quick.

Major is the OC. At the end of the day, any issues are his responsibility. The line blocking is on him. Make changes a la BYU. If Matt Millen can see the easy short passes, you should too. As well as I thought the NMSt game was called, that is how bad I thought the BYU game was called. We have a ton of talent that we spread all over the field and used against NMSt, and did the opposite against BYU.

Did Daje's injury prevent us from using the pod? That is the big question for me because it seems so effective with the talent we do have by allowing for multiple looks, multiple options, and different blocking assignments based on the look given by the defense. Those are all things we could have used Saturday night.

From the very first play I said to myself I don't want a speed back (DJ) lining up behind the QB in a single or even 2 back set. This OL is not creating holes at all. Not only will he not have the power to push for yards, he'll get injured. Behind (or next to) Ash should be Bergeron and/or MB IMO. DJ needs to be starting but running sweeps or pod formation plays with extra blockers etc. He's not the guy you want banging heads between the tackles.

Yeah. There are no holes to run through and the OL can't keep defenders out of the backfield. Even near the end of the game in prevent situations where BYU was dropping extra guys into coverage, BYU was getting pressure with 3 and 4 guys. Inexcusable. This might be the worst OL I've seen at UT.
