That article makes it sound like Texas has more money than they know what to do with. Oh wait, they do.

Wrong thing to say here, wrong board, and we all have different political slants, but have to say I wish Obama and his entire administration could be given this level national coverage for possible mid-term replacements the way this is handled. Wow!! It's on every board and blog and sports venue.

Maybe by end of season, everybody will be wishing they had Kliff Kingsbury.

I like #1 and #3, but my #1 would be Meyer. Whatever the costs, I'd pay him. We would be relevant in 2014 with him as our coach.

Saban, Myer and Mushchamp are not going to leave their comfortable situations to rebuild a program, even one that has decent talent and great facilities. They have that already.

It gets interesting with Strong, the Vanderbilt guy, and Petrino. I think Petrino's little Harley cruise and hiring his engaged girlfriend so she would be "handy" makes him a non-starter. Strong is very intriguing. There damn sure would be accountability.

I'm not so sure about Saban. We don't want those national championships coming that easy, now do we?

I can see Strong going to Florida after a successful season and Coach Boom coming back to Texas. Another longshot not mentioned would be Gladewater, Texas native and former Chicago Bear coach Lovie Smith. It would be nice to get him and another former Bear, Mike Singletary, as defensive coordinator.

    Muschamp?
    Is this a joke?
Florida fans would love this scenario after the worst hire in their history continues.
Coach Boom was a fun story while here but, let's be honest he sucks as a head coach. look at the facts. And don't overlook the Louisiana Monroe school for the blind win at home by blocking a punt when you do.
Strong is the ONLY real candidate on this list.

Looking at this article makes you think ... Even if we didn't have the BYU meltdown - how long has it been since Mack Brown has been on ANYONE's list of top 20 coaches in college football?

I like all of the brainiac school coaches - Franklin, Shaw, Fitgerald.

Strong is intriguing. Muschamp is a maybe.

Swinney at Clemson has take a pereniall underachiever and won some big games lately.

The new at Wisconsin is excellent, but not a big enough name for us to hire.

    #2,

Don't know how old you are, but Will won't make UF's Top Ten worst hires. That list starts with Charlie Pell, throw in Ron Zook, repeat Charlie Pell.

As a member of The Florida Foundation for over 25 years, I am aware that UF had NEVER won an SEC Football Championship until Spurrier arrived. Plenty of crappy hires before that, but every other name on that list is "Charlie Pell".

Now I will accept that you don't like Muschamp, but will also accept that your comment was "heat of hatred" and not founded in facts.

All that said, the only possibility on that list other names added is Nick Saban. I would bring Muschamp back, but he feels that he was blatantly lied to and misled. Don't think Will has a warm fuzzy feeling about The University of Texas.

I would rather discuss whom is going to do the hiring. Deloss has NEVER hired a football coach at Texas. DKR hired two and fired one. He is dead. Cunningham hired one, and the upper deck threatens to crash down every time Little Willie walks into stadium. So, WHO HIRES THIS COACH?

i think strong is a great coach, but his pre-bridgewater record would concern me.

franklin would be my pick, but it also depends on how the whole vandy rape trial thing impacts him.

cant go wrong with the dude from northwestern...but he's an alum, so it would be interesting to see if he'd be willing to leave.

another name to consider would be al golden at miami. dude is a rising star.

    Joe,

I don't want any "yankee" coaches. We had that forced on us once with Mackovic. (Yes, I know he went to Wake, but that arrogant son of a ***** is still a "yankee.")

Al Golden? Not no, but hell no. No one with State Penn ties should be allowed to deplane at Bergstrom. I won't elaborate on that other than to say "no ******* way".

We have more of everything to offer than any other school, so I don't want a guy that's had a couple of years. I want a guy that has a history of success. Unfortunately, that list is very very short.

You, more than anyone that posts here, should understand what is happening to Texas football because you lived it. RC is a great guy and a friend. RC was afraid to hire any assistant who might be his replacement. I spent two days in Ft Lauderdale talking to the wife and daughters of a great DC. RC had contacted him during the season about interviewing. He contacted me to get my thoughts. My daughter was in college then and told me, "Daddy, stop it. If RC hires him, our offense will never score on A&M again". That was RC's downfall - his choice of assistants. I have always been Mack's biggest critic, but I also have communicated to him that I don't won't him to leave. I lived through the multiple factions and in-fighting that was The University of Texas football. Mack is now faced with the RC decisions and seems to be going down the same road - grabbing "yes men" rather than really great assistants.

    Fitzgerald? Really?
He is 52-39, 26-30 in conference and has lost 4 out of 5 bowl games losing to Missouri, Auburn, Texas Tech and aggy. Only bowl winwas a 17-16 squeeker over a mediocre Mississippi St team. Strong is done when Bridgewater is done, wasn't very good before Bridgewater and won't be very good after Bridgewater. Shaw is still living on borrowed time and borrowed Harbaugh players. This year will be the start of the decline at Stanford. Franklin has problems that havent surfaced yet, but they wiill and he will be gone sooner than later.

Line these guys up and Mack is the best hire of the bunch.

My pick would be Bill Cowher. I'd be okay with Chris Petersen or Charlie Strong. The best person for the job just might be Lovie Smith. Personable, charming, approachable, a good guy Texan with an excellent resume.
