His offense at Syracuse for that year was ranked like #109 out of 114. Then Todd Graham became Major's redeemer, despite the obvious fact that Graham was calling all of Rice's plays. He has an uphill battle tonight with arguably our two best linemen (laugh if you want) and our QB out.
If I owned stock in any company Mack was CEO of, I would SELL SELL SELL. This guy has fast turned UT Football into a slush fund. Mack's comfort comes first. His buddies are up there too. Football / share holders is somewhere way down the list.
were did he get these running plays from? This is crap. Have we tried something off tackle at all to night??

Mack is just making it right 10 years after screwing Major out of QB. Never you mind that Major has not proved **** as an OC.. This is part of Mack's farewell charity tour... I am surprised he did not bring Bull Reese out of retirement.
The mindset behind the play calling tonight was quite obviously Mack Brown's. Applewhite wasn't the one who spent over 50% of the Alabama game announcing "Attention Opposing Coaches: We don't trust Gilbert, so adjust your D accordingly please" (which is what we mostly did with Case in this game). Applewhite wasn't the one calling for a kneel-down just before halftime of the 2002 OU game. Etc etc etc.
Stat! Thanks, for bringing up the kneel-down before half. To me, this is Mack. Opie is not all that. Sorry, he's not. Never thought he was. After his being with a co-Ed.....he's dead to me.
The program stinks so bad that you can hardly tell where the smell originates. It's rotten to the core and it has been rotting for several seasons now.
It's always hard to say who's calling what, but last night looked pretty much like minimizing Case's exposure. Run on first down, run on second down, make it third down and manageable, and then Case only has one chance to throw a pick, and even then he only has to throw it 10 yard or so down field. I lean toward Mack largely because one, Mack has always been about minimizing risk. Two, he's the one who actually claimed our OL did well last week against BYU. I really think he's the only person in the stadium aside from some coaches who actually believed that those first and second down run plays were actually going to go anywhere. And I'm including the OL in that. Maybe I'm wrong but Applewhite doesn't seem the type to be content to run it off tackle for 2 yards a pop. Plus, he studied under Greg Davis, who was the king of "Abandon the Running Game"...
Ole Miss made our Offense look better than it was last night. In the first half, they gave us the cushions that enabled those quick passes to work. Unnecessary generosity on their part, and when they tightened the whole thing up it was over.
Applewhite has a lot to learn but I don't remember Harsin being all that great here. We will be better off when Daje and Ash are back.
What exactly did Major do as a coach to earn OC gig at one of the best programs in the country? Other than banging a student. Entitlement at its finest.

The blinders are finally coming off concerning many things about this football program and the men's athletic program in general.
"We will be better off when Daje and Ash are back." Unfortunately, not enough to have a decent season and go to a decent bowl game (and I don't mean the Holiday or Alamo Bowl). Our defense is contributing little. The more games we lose, the better the chance Mack gets forced out.
I'm very disappointed in Major. He was such a heady QB, he knew where to go with the ball. I was sure he would know how to devise an offense that would take advantage of the opponent's weaknesses and use their strengths against them. I thought he would be great at "chess match" play calling. Unfortunately it looks like GD redux. I think most of us could draw a play in the dirt that would use a little misdirection to get an attacking defense off balance. Instead it's Bergeron up the middle for minus one so try it again for no gain...punt.
Hey you missed the incomplete pass on 3rd and long. Good player does not automatically make for a good coach.
If you took away his name and read in the newspaper "Texas hires subpar RB coach to call plays, who didn't even call plays when he was a mediocre OC in other destinations," everyone would have had a fit on this board. His RB coaching alone for the last couple seasons was probably enough for him to get booted. Just like Manny's LB coaching... guys are clueless about pass protection and not utilizing RB skills to find holes, use their vision, or get us two yards when we need one. Instead he was given a promotion.
