The Belldozer completes 27 of 37 for 413 yards and a 51-20 win over Tulsa. This could be very bad news for us. You think we had trouble tackling BY's QB.last week? Imagine what Bell can do.
Eh, it's Tulsa. Yes I'm worried that he OR Knight could destroy us, but performances against Tulsa have nothing to do with that.
Yeah! He is not going to run for a whole lot of yards but he did a good job of looking through his reads and getting the ball off when needed and sucking the D in!
Big XII player of the week. I've got to admit, I wasn't expecting him to play that well. He makes the easy throws and places the ball in a position where receivers can get significant YAC. He does not throw a good deep ball on the fade or sideline go patterns (too much air, looks odd). But, he does throw a good deep seam pass, posts, and outs. His timing and placement on anything short to intermediate was excellent. It's weird, you can clearly tell some weaknesses in the passing game, but he wasn't anywhere near as weak as I expected. When it came to reads, he looked solid. He had good pocket presence and several times saved potential sacks, turning them into 3-5 yard gains. He looks a lot like Roethlesberger in the back-field, especially given the 6-6 size. Very technically adept passing on roll-outs. It's very hard to understand why he wasn't starting all along. He played pretty similar in the spring game as well. Managed the team and moved the ball consistently down the field. It was one game, and I'm sure he'll look much less impressive against ND. But, after he was beat out by a freshman in the fall camp, I think it's safe to say everyone was very surprised at how technically capable he looked throwing the ball. Should make for an interesting season.
He executes the screens comfortably, which is most important. Agreed that his deep passes are weak and inaccurate. I think we'll run it 40-50 times at ND.
Wait...is someone on this board expecting LESS than the recent traditional OU mud-holing?.....Our D-LIne will stop---what? Our O-Line will protect who? The names and faces of the Sooners may change, but with this program we are destined for the wrong end of a typical stomping...I have even given up on the fantasy of "the underdog wins the RRR" which has been disproved in this millennium on several occasions....we have no fight in this bunch...19 returning starters---what a joke!
[q] Ok, but that's not relevant to tapping on the breaks on the praise of Bell after a sample size of 1 game and 0 quality opponents. [/q] cannot help but to feel that Tulsa or Rice would be a more quality opponent for Texas opponents than Texas will/would be. At the moment, Rice does have a win against the Big 12 while our signature win on the season, err only win of the season was against Our Little Sisters of the Blind and Quadraplegic, err NMSU.
He did look better than I expected and just goes to show you the crappy *** coach speak you get with all coaches. At the end of the day you do not know how a kid is going to perform until the bullets are live. He seems more comfortable in the pocket than Knight. If a team forces us to throw and we do not have wide open receivers, it could go down hill fast for us. Which means we might win the Big 12 and get beat by 42 points against LSU in a BCS game.
Don't worry, you can run the QB dive about 30 times in a row against Texas and average 15 yards per play. What's this passing thing you speak of, and why would it be needed?
Tulsa won 11 last year and beat Iowa State badly in the bowl game. I'd guess they would be a pickem with BYU.
Recently it has been traditional for the Horns to wait until the Ou game to expose its "WALL of NERF " D-line and multiple rapings up the middle.....this year, due to climate change, or something, it was exposed even earlier...the best we can hope for is a really wet field with monsoon rains so the Sooners slip and fall during the line gashing runs, bouncing downward off of our river dance afflicted tackling and flubber coated secondary....
I can't believe Stoops is starting Bell over Knight. That could destroy Knights confidence . Stoops should stick with Knight, and if he happens to make a bad play, clap, clap, as he comes off the field. Make sure he feels good about that boneheaded play he just made. And by all means don't yell at him! His mommy and daddy may be watching. And a good coach should care more about not hurting a players confidence, and making sure his mommy and daddy are happy, than about winning games. Because you promised them you'd take care of their son. And the number one reason their boy came here is NOT to win stupid championships, but because of the FAMILY atmosphere.
