Vol Horn 4 Life Good Bye To All The Rest!

    And Nate Boyer is pissed

Former Longhorn quarterback Chance Mock posted the below comment on his facebook page during the heat of the moment Saturday night after the Texas loss to Ole Miss:

Real talk and I’m out for the day. Texas should have been able to beat byu and ole miss without coaches even around, just on talent alone. This isn’t on coach brown or anyone on his staff. This is on a group of guys that doesn’t know how to fight or respect the name of the front of the jersey and the guys that bled for it before them. There’s a huge responsibility that comes with wearing that uniform. If you can’t handle it, don’t put it on. We are Texas, and if you don’t want to fight for it then you shouldn’t wear it. And im damn close to walking in the locker room and personally pulling it off some guys. This ain’t a country club, it’s a freaking war room.
When he posted the comment, he tagged many former Longhorn players…and current player Nate Boyer. Nate is active duty special forces and the long snapper on the current Texas team. This is what Nate said about Chance’s comment:

My response to the Post below that I was tagged in:

I DON'T like this. This is not a war room, it is nothing even remotely close to that. I doubt anyone that commented on this post has even the faintest hint of a clue as to what that really is. But I do. This is a football team, and I love and support UT Football and the men who play inside the white lines as much as anyone. It's true we lost a couple of football games and didn't play very well, believe me, we are all well aware of that. But no one on this team is quitting, we still have got a lot of fight left in us. If you want to quit on us than be our guest, we don't need you. We don't need anyone except each other. I welcome anyone who thinks we don't fight for Texas to come and try to pull that name off my chest or anyone else on this team. I'm the only current player who was tagged in this post, and I doubt any of the other guys would respond anyway because they are told to ignore stuff like this. But I'm the old guy on the team and really don't care about any repercussions. I don't care who you are and when you played, if you have lost faith and are giving up on these Longhorns then just go, we will play for one another..

Hey I like what both these guys had to say. Everybody should get angry. Get pissed. Get mad. Get anything, but not give up.

I love Nate but if your deep snapper is the only leader then you have problems

Love Nate, but watching this team I see a lot of quit going on with my own eyes.

What's funny is that everyone associated with this team seems to worry more about what outsiders say about them way more than on field performance and effort. I wonder where this attitude comes from? Hmmmmm

I think I liked it better when we were good and had players getting arrested. Sucking and talking **** on Facebook doesn't have that same edge to it.

Maybe Nate should be pulling that name off of some chests in the locker room instead of defending them.

I have great admiration for what Mr Boyer says and how he feels. I have greater admiration for all he has accomplished in his life.

That said, I have asked the last two years to have "TEXAS" taken off the front of the jerseys until someone shows leadership, hunger, and a commitment to something other than 6th Street,

We are now into year three and NO ONE has stepped up. I don't have a problem at my age ripping it off, but first I want some help ripping the Mr T Starter kit off our 450 embarrassment on the payroll. Problem is, it weighs more than I do.

    Two comments:

    1) I seem to remember Chance coming off the bench to beat Tech in a spectacular performance.

    2) It doesn't make a **** how impressive Chance was on the field. He has spoken the truth. Stevie Wonder can see

    How soft this team is,

How they don't know where to lineup - of course, if that neverwas wannabe Greg Robinson would signal the defense in on a timely basis, it would help.

    How they have totally quit

How they have no fundamentals at all

How they expect the opponent to see "TEXAS" and rollover and play dead.

How there is no leadership on the field or on the sideline.

Mackovic's teams were incredibly soft, but they at least put forth an effort.

Mock is the last person on this earth who should be criticizing anyone. He should go over some of his game tapes. Most games he was completely clueless about what was going on or what the plan was.

What we are talking about here is effort. Watching the past two games it was missing. Guys running on the field like zombies with very little emotion.

I watched the UTSA game against Oklahoma State. They were jumping up an down, urging each other on and busting their guts. Despite a bunch of one star players playing OSU they laid 35 points on them never quitting until the final gun.

Will we score 35 against them? Not without effort that is totally missing from our current horn team.

I like what Chance said and I'd like to take his side. However, I remember the hand he played in the 65-13 OU debacle in 2003.

So hello, Mr. Pot. Why so sanctimonious towards the Kettles?

2004 and 2005 were great seasons. And 2008 and 2009 were remarkable seasons. I'm thankful for them.

Otherwise, Mack's tenure has been mired by heartbreaking underachievement and subsequent excuses by everybody from the top down.

Just like it was with Mackovic, McWilliams, Akers and even Royal in his last six years.

I hate to say it and we all hate to admit it, but with rare and wonderful exceptions, our Horns have been soft since October of 1971.

Obviously this isn't just a player problem or a coaching problem. Perhaps coddling, entitlement and underachievement is actually an inherent byproduct of being the Joneses.

The legend in Alabama is that when Nick Saban first arrived in January 2007, he went to the weight room and saw all the TVs and called the maintenance crew.

The TVs were all removed by 4 a.m. the next morning.

Reportedly Saban said "it's all business in here from now on".

Chance Mock gave everything he had on every play.
He was replaced by Vince Young that gave everything he had on every play.
When Mock was asked to go in against TTech and Washington St., he gave everything he had.
He didn't transfer, he didn't whine and he didn't quit.
I understand exactly what he is saying.

Chance Mock is probably the last guy that any ill will should be directed toward. He was a good QB and a great team-first guy. He lost his job by the unfortunate merit of having an all-world improviser with him on the bench, and that's what we needed to hide our deficiencies on the other side of the ball in 2003 (Bull Reese's farewell tour of "how do I defend this thing called the spread?"). Mock's QB rating was higher than Simms from the prior season, who got drafted in the 3rd round. He definitely wasn't as accurate as he could have been, but he was nothing but class while he was here. And I agree with his overall assessment of the current program.

Nate Boyer is awesome for having served in the military, but his football leadership can be considered "meh" when you see how well the team is playing. Nate learned how to DS so that he could join the team. Then he earned a scholarship for being a good guy and a nice Disney Award story, and possibly the fact that we've lost 24 scholarship players early over the last 3 years. When you start talking about how "football is a game and not a war room," you've already lost, because now it's excusable to not be prepared for "just a game." I know that's more on the coaches, but defending it at this point is really just not gonna help. He should have let Chance's comments go.

If football players don't see the competition as an "us vs. them" thing, then they wouldn't be playing. Any sport can be compared to war without taking it as far as "life and death."

This team is soft PERIOD. Anytime you have a player that runs from contact playing LB, then you have a problem. This is not a players problem though. The coaches are responsible for those kind of players being on the field. If he loafs or avoids contact at times, then YANK HIS *** OUT OF THE GAME. It's unbelievable that some players on our starting Def even gets on the field. I'd rather lose with players giving everything they have and will try to tackle from the front than lose with players that only like tackle from behind.

Vince Young was equally involved with the 65-13 debacle. Vince Young is also the only Texas QB to get shutout in the past 30 years (lost 12-0 to OU). See I can play the selective memory game too.

Mock was a very good QB. It would have been great had he been here from 2010-2013 instead of the same time as Simms and VY.

Using a metaphoric analogy does not disrespect anyone nor does it offend anyone. Especially not the the millions of veterans including me.
Maybe the problem is the fact Boyer would get his little feelings hurt and pout. He damn sure admitted they did not play well.
The players showed how they were capable of playing in the second quarter against Ol Miss.

Of all the Mack era QBs pre-Gilbert (Applewhite, Simms, Mock, Young, and Colt), Chance was by far the least of the bunch. All the other guys were All-Conference, and in the case of VY and Colt, consensus All-Americans/O'Brien winners.

However, Chance would be head and shoulders the best QB on this current team.

Hey don't forget about Martin Cherry, the Gambler, from the 97 team I believe.

Every throw is going to be a TD with him, for one team or the other.

Boyer should know, if he's a student of military history, that every losing side belives to the bitter end, that they're doing OK, and just a little bit more time/people/equipment/luck will turn things around.

Paulus thought the same thing around Stalingrad, Navarre about Dien Bien Phu. Soliders, or players, are too close to the action to see when they have no chance to win. They keep fighting on, bless them, until the end.

I get what Chance is saying and doesn't intend to dis the military. If the coaches don't do it then the players ought to call those who are not giving 100%. Earn your money coaches! I'm not ever giving up on the team and will support them. Once the season is over then if there needs to be changes at the top then they need to be done quickly.
