Im trying to verify that ESPN reported today that (NCAAF Media Report) - "UT Board of Regents met with Nick Sabans agent in January about possibly replacing Mack Brown." Can anyone verify this is true? Old news? First time Ive heard about it so I am skeptical....
It's all over the AP wire, but it was only a phone call and took place back in January. Interesting that Mack apparently wasn't informed of the call until after the fact. It seems it began out of speculation that Brown might retire. APNewsBreak: Texas Regent Talked to Saban's Agent
I find Joe Jamail's threat of lawsuits ridiculous Mack's Buy-out Jan 1, 2013 is only 2.75 million all of the money is not guaranteed thru 2020 if you exercise the buy-out
JJ can sure throw a wrench into the works and tie up any movement forward for a while. He ought to be on the side of the program and the university and not defending a lost cause coach further eroding the Texas brand and impeding the progress back to national relevance.
This has NOTHING to do with Joe Jamail. WE WERE WARNED! The man in Huntsville and the man IN Montgomery warned us about this. This is nothing more than a warning shot across the bow. OOPS, made a military reference to a situation in college athletics - prepare for thread hi-jacking.
^^^ No, he comes across as someone with an agenda that has very little to do with Mack Brown or improving the quality of higher education in Texas. He's a loose cannon--guys like that might very well hit their intended target, but they also manage to cause unnecessary collateral damage in the process.
NBC affiliate just reported it here in Tulsa on the 6:25 PM sports. Could it happen? A. Three titles out of four years means Saban has nothing left to prove at 'Bama. B. The mess we have here in Austin would provide Saban with the monster challenge he may be looking for. If he " fixes " us like he did 'Bama, he becomes the unquestioned " best coach of all time".
Why do some of you want a coach that gets programs on probation? Are you Aggies and Sooners now and don't care if your program has no morals or class? Saban is sketchy in his methods. Results are not always everything. I want better results too but not at that price. Not like that.
Do we know that Saban's agent did not leak this, as a way of making Saban's contract more valuable? Probably our regents initiated this, but why leak it now? Don't think there's any legs to this, but makes for an interesting day, and of course, Mack knows.
Give Jamail his money back!!!! How'd he get so rich anyway? This certainly was a bad investment....in the long run
Johnny, No, it was not leaked by Sexton. We were warned by a couple of BMDs in Alabama that they would embarrass us if we made another call. As I said before, this is a warning shot across the bow. For doubters, I was told in June that Bama had already hired Saban to be announced after the NFL season. These gentlemen are in it for the good of The University of Alabama, not self-serving egomaniacs like Wallace Hall. Another consideration about "the phone call", I can't remember which one, but Baker Montgomery or Duvall or Hall is a hunting buddy of Saban. Also, people should consider where Tom Hicks was and who he was with when DKR loaded the plane for Atlanta.
As someone stated on a previous thread, it's gonna be like the movie Roadhouse. Dillon," its gonna get worse before it gets better". So get your popcorn
The story is not as important to me as the timing of the release of this pony-express "breaking-news" that was apparently walked over from Alabama to Austin by a blind man who lost his way several times...the question is--who released this and for what purpose? Also see: Bo Pelini fan rant from 2011, released 2013....there are reasons....
Sabre- I only get a little of what you are saying because you assume those reading your posts are as knowledgeable as you about who the BMDs are and how they are oriented in all of this. Can you tell us $200 fans how, in your opinion, this will ultimately play out? It sounds to me like Mack is circling wagons instead of picking out a gold watch. Will the BMDs decide their approach behind closed doors, or are they going to fracture so this whole thing becomes FSU on steroids?
It is my opinion that Saban was approached and that he would want the job. The man is ego obsessed, and he wants to be thought of as the greatest coach in college football history. Regardless of the smoke and mirrors and denials, I think he wants the job. Having said that, I would not want him.
