Other than the blocked punts by NC State in '99, I really can't complain.

Perfect scenario was to not have Colt injured by a knucklehead greg davis play call, win the NC, Mack moves to AD, and Muschamp the HC. That was practically a reality. Unless Mack goes at least 10-3 he needs to move on. Anything less than last year is unacceptable and a change in the program is needed which is inevitable at any program eventually.

Don't worry, football is a knee-jerk response sport. It's a week to week deal. We have plenty more opponents that could/should woodshed us embarrassingly. I still see it being a longshot we hang anywhere close to OU, OSU, and Baylor. KSU is a middle of the road Big 12 team. 7-5 is likely the best we can do. That should seal the deal.

This could be almost as bad a year as 2010. We could realistically lose 6 games this year by an average of 24 points ( -19 BYU, -21 MISS, -24 OU, -17 TCU -28 OSU, -35 BAY).

This problem isn't just one year on an otherwise positive trend. It's the fourth consecutive year of underperforming, which is too long even for a coach who has been an asset to the University. This is an experienced team that just isn't good enough. Time to head to pasture, Mack. Thanks for the [IMG] moments.

    Please answer the following questions:

    1) Who makes the decision to fire him? How many does it take to make that decision?

    2) Who has the stroke to pull the trigger? I'm not seeing any one person, although several would like for you to believe that they are that important.

    3) Who do you get to replace him? At this point, it is Nick Saban or a crap shoot. Are you really willing to risk several years of recovery and millions of dollars on a maybe? After four games, Major can't get a job as OC at Anderson HS, much less move up to HC.

Am I happy with Mack Brown or any of his staff? HELL NO! We have painted ourselves into the corner and have to wait it out unless Saban says "yes", but even with that, who carries the offer? Sure as hell can't be anyone named Hicks (unless I could talk Steve Hicks, retired managing partner of Jones Walker, and owner of the home Saban bought in Baton Rouge into doing it). Neither can is be anyone with "Wallace" in his name.

We can beat OU. I am not convinced we have a snowballs chance against Baylor.

At some point performance on the field will matter and over-take whatever forces are propping up the current status quo...

I really can't see anything worse than the path this program is on right now. Horns are irrelevent. Who wants to stay that way?

Exactly. Mack and his staff are getting less with more.
Nick Saban is not the only coach in the universe who can coach kids UP.

Mack is also not the only coach in the universe who can recruit. Evidence is in that Mack's slipped in that area as well, anyway. Many coaches with our resources, (and without the negative momentum Mack has right now) could outrecruit Mack at this time.

Mack was* once a good CEO, although I'd say he's a terrible CEO at this point. He actually though we had this thing fixed but the losing culture remains intact.

Mack has always excelled at being a politician, though. And still does. I am not trying to be derogative here, in the least. The CEO and politician hats are important here.

That said, replacing Mack with someone who can be all the things we need, coach, recruiter, CEO, politician, will not be easy. Mack had 3 of those 4 things in spades at one time. At this time, he has lost too much ground.

When you're in the NFL you don't have to go on the road and recruit

So you assume that the adm will go hire another D Mc? It may very well be another DKR. The status quo is unacceptable.

    Stat,

The "Gray bridge" indeed has been burned, but by whom will get you different responses. He remains the most "football smart" player we ever put on defense, with the possible exception of Bill Bradley.

I really think that the bridges that were burned do not carry much if any weight in a coaching change. That said, I don't see him ever working for Mack Brown.

Other than the OP, I did not read any other posts. No. I don't think this season ends well and it does not end well for Mack. I hope I am wrong.
