....., written and directed by Alfonso Cuaron and starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, with my dear wife.

    We watched it in 3D.

    The Link

I was reminded, storywise, of the hopelessness and isolation in "Castaway," the teamwork and heroic resourcefulness in "Apollo 13," the strong female protagonist in "Alien" and, going way back, Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart specifically and all they overcame in "The African Queen."

I think it will be Oscar nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress and could deservedly win any of those awards, depending on the opposition.

I believe it will very likely win the Oscars for Visual Effects and Production Design and might win for Best Cinematography, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Film Editing or Original Score.

I think it probably is, as James Cameron said, "The best picture about outer space ever done."

I believe. indeed, it's a memorable achievement in moviemaking.

Because, it features wonderful special effects, good acting, exciting action and tense drama.

But, myself, how shall I put it?

I found the scripted story a little weightless.

We appreciated the entertaining film making, but thought "Gravity" lacked gravitas.

    JMO.

I hope everybody who wants to see it, goes and enjoys it.

    As we did.

I don't go to theaters after the Aurora Colorado incident, but I can't wait for this to come out on DVD!

Come to think of it, I don't go to Navy shipyards either. [IMG]

I don't go to theaters since my shoes started sticking to the floors.

Good movie for the 3D graphics. Just about every part of it was completely not believable, but the 3D graphics were unbelievable.

I just couldn't imagine bouncing around from shuttle, to space station to space station with her "I'm figuring it out as I go" character and think any of it was actually possible while on top of that dodging satellite debris destroying everything around her.

I suppose the ending was appropriate getting her "gravity legs", but it seemed weak to me.

However, Sandy looks amazing in her short shorts floating around! I'd watch it again on HBO, but I might be disappointed without the 3D aspect.

I don't go to theaters if they are not the Alamo Cinema and Drafthouse. If you don't live near one you are not a good fan of movies. Sorry, had to.

I like the enforcement of silence and darkening of phones. I like they throw you out if you don't comply and disturb people. They have good sound, comfy seats and delicious food for about the same price as you'd pay for overpriced candy and such.

    Alamo or me no go.

I don't like 3d. I thought Avatar was average, and the few 3d movies i've seen, didn't really think it was worth the extra cost.

This movie.... I've never said "wow" so many times. A must see in 3D. Beautiful movie. Wonderful tension. Clooney plays a Texan. Houston in the blind. This is a visually driven movie; and

<Highlight to see SPOILER> I liked the symbolism with the main character being reborn as she gets over the depression of her lost child. This was Bullock's character arc </SPOILER> I can't really see that without highlighting on my screen - so hope it works [IMG]

If you are a fan of cinema, see this in 3d. Like Avatar, this is one that will be historical.

I've noticed that sitting closer to the front gives a better 3d experience. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with that... My experience is very limited, but in the back, it doesn't seem as impressive. I could be wrong.

    Agree. Best seen in 3D.

I went in a group of three people. Two gave it a 3.0 of of 5 rating, while I gave it a 4.

It's not a film for everyone.

I thought it was great - a little predictable in a lot of ways. SPOILER ALERT: Did anyone NOT know that when George Clooney popped into the shuttle, he was a ghost/hallucination/dream?

But it was very moving, and I think she did a great job with it. Hey... if you want realism, you probably don't want to go to a movie that starts with the premise that on the last day of a missions, the Russians just happen to shoot down a satellite that all of a sudden turns the entire atmosphere into a shrapnel trap.

The film was visually breathtaking, and the story is good enough to pull you in and make a great experience.

Saw it this afternoon (with my brother-in-law, an ou fan...of course I was wearing burnt orange; he, in defeat, was wearing nary a drop of crimson); I'd give it 3.5 stars out of 4. I've never been that big a fan of Sandra Bullock, and in particular I've never thought she was that hot, but I have to admit that with her short haircut and in short shorts she looked pretty damn good. She should keep that hair style all the time. I don't know what her competition was like the year she won the Oscar for The Blind Side, but I think her acting here trumps that film.
