Okay say Ash is cleared who do you start? Who gives us the best chance to run the table? Man glad Im not the one making this decision. My opinion go with the one that got you there.

Really?? You know good and well, that most wisdom on this board says the only way the Horns can be relevant is with a strong armed QB. So 5he answer would be pretty simple on this board.

It's not about having a strong armed quarterback, it's about having a quarterback whose arm strength is so marginal that it closes off a good portion of the playbook. Did you notice that when we got into the red zone, we had exactly one throw available? That's because Case doesn't have the arm strength to put a pass in a tight window, and you have to do that when you're throwing into the end zone. So we lob a ball into the corner a couple of times and then kick a field goal.

I don't think the Ash question is really a realistic scenario at this point, anyway. He's not in playing shape and if he were cleared to practice tomorrow, I don't see how he's ready to go in two weeks. I don't know that you bring a guy back and instantly put him in as starter on the last game, particular if you've been winning.

Mack has said this is now Case's team. It's pretty evident the other players follow him. Based on that you keep playing Case.

I don't see Ash coming back. Serious injury and susceptible to reocurrence. Ash, even if he was well would not be in playing mode.

Even if Ash was cleared today I don't think he's in football shape.
Colt would have to start and Ash the backup.

I did not see Ash at the game. I think if he had a chance to come back he would have been with the bench. Seems like there is still a worry about loud noise and lights. Most likely a non issue. Maybe the bowl game.

In no scenario where Ash is ready to play should Case start over him. Ever.

We just need to hope Ash is ready to go next Sept. No way I would play him this year regardless if it could put us into the Fiesta. He needs to heal completely and then make a decision with his doctors and parents.

This makes mack's burning of swoopes redshirt even more questionable.

McCoy was much more "productive" last night than he was versus TCU or KU, so, odd comment above.

He was terrible in all 3 as he is a terrible QB.

I don't think the D took a big step backwards. They held the #2 back in the Big 12 to under 100 yards, they had tons of sacks and QB hurries, and they forced 5 turnovers (which we only converted into 16 points). I'll take that kind of effort any day. I blame the closeness of this game on the offense and the fact that they had a hard time finding a rhythm and keeping our defense off the field.

Oh and to answer the question. I'd start Case. He stayed frosty and the team pulled a rabbit out of the hat again last night.

Would like to amend my statement above. Case isn't terrible. He isn't good, though, and if Ash is healthy and in game shape, it'd be idiotic to start Case ahead of him.

After watching that game...the limited play calling to try to fit Case, the atrocious passes down after down, airmailing easy 10 yard routes 10 yards over heads, etc, etc etc... Anyone who thinks Case gives us remotely a better chance to win is delusional. Oh how things would be different in only 2 plays. ISU gets that fumble...nobody is on the Case train. West Va stops that 4th down, everybody jumps off the Case train.

But I guess a win is a win, and since 'airmail' McCoy and unimaginative "fade master' Applewhite were leading the winning offense...all is well. Gimme a break. I'd give anything to see Ash's results in these games with the same hard effort and effectiveness from the rest of the team.

I could make a highlight tape of about 30 atrocious passes from McCoy starting with OU. Most Horn fans would puke after seeing at least half were sure catches if a marginal QB was delivering the ball.

Keep supporting this secondhand talent and play behind center at all costs. Even after that abomination of a game he just played at QB. Wow!!! Sure, he's been able to beat the worst teams in the conference now as the rest of the team finally stepped up and did enough to make sure of that. Even though 2 of the scrubs were by the hair of our chin and almost ruined our run embarrassingly.

Now let's see what happens when we get in real trouble with the stronger teams and have to match powerful offenses with a decent defense resisting McCoy. Let's see if erratic passing, elementary offensive pass play calls to protect his many weaknesses, and constant fades will get us by the real contenders. [IMG] This is a trainwreck waiting to happen. I knew it before last night, and now there is zero doubt. This guy won't get it done without our running game blasting away.

To answer the question, hell no I wouldn't start Fade McCoy over a healthy Ash and an open playbook. The only thing that matters is what Mack would do. And we all know 100% Mack would never replace Case without him losing a game first. A win is a win...yes. But a narrow escape needs to be strongly addressed if the QB was so pathetic that he constantly put us in that awful spot we never should have been in.

this is not a debate at this point. McCoy has won this hob now. I liked Ash but he never developed in some areas. He just never seemed to command the respect of the team who plays so much harder for Case.

Case McCoy on 3rd & 4th down in the 2nd half: 9/14 for 123 yards and 2 TDs.

Hey, Brad, Is that the same open playbook that had the Horns scoring ZERO points in the first 28 minutes of the New Mexico St game??? Just sayin.

Case is not a good QB. He constantly throws the "prayer ball" off his back foot because he doesn't have the arm to get the ball downfield.

That said, the kid does win ball games. You gotta dance with the one that brung you. So go Case and Kick OSU's *** next Saturday.

Why stir this pot? Ash isn't cleared to play and probably won't be the rest of the season.

The better thing to worry about is getting Swoopes ready if he is needed.

If I were Ash's father, I would a) be very proud of my son, and b) consider very strongly whether to advise him to end his football career now. These concussion symptoms are lasting too long! I would have a hard time getting over the possibility of long-term damage.

Hornia, is this the same team whatsoever...OL, defense stopping people and giving the ball back, etc. as Ash had at his disposal in the start? Last I checked they were getting manhandled at the line on both sides of the ball, giving up tons of pressure, and the running game was going nowhere. If the guys played that same brand of garbage, soft football around McCoy as they did in that start, this would be laughable. And no they are not playing harder for McCoy, they just quit being pansies altogether when a guy like Robinson influenced the team with fire and passion.

Comparing Ash's ineffective moments in the first 3 games vs. McCoy's failures starting at OU isn't even in the same stratosphere. There's not a Horn fan alive that wouldn't tell you this is an entirely different TEAM effort and competency than when Ash was in their with guys playing like scrubs around him. The point is simply surround Ash with what McCoy is now working with and the results would be absurdly more productive and consistent. McCoy has his fine moments, no argument here, yet has far too many complete busts that hardly any other decent QB's would produce.

I guess we will see next year. I am sorry to say, but I think you will be sadly mistaken, should Ash come back. Ash has had some good moments, but at the same time, he has had quite a few "Kansas" moments too.
