We played our 8th game of the year against Baylor and in a surprise it was for the conference game and a defensive game. We had two close calls already discussed but two great defensive plays bailed us out. This was to be our only game that we scored single digits in. We scored the only points in the game with 1:55 left in the third quarter when Tom Stockton scored from the one and Tony Crosby kicked the extra point.
We were deep in their territory near the end of the game and a field goal would have put the game out of reach. I remember screaming at the radio to not fumble but of course we did and they came out passing and moving the ball but fortunately we had one great play left to win it. We had really beat up a valiant Baylor team and the Coaches let them have Monday off and an injured Baylor team lost to a Kentucky team they should have beat 19-7.
This was our fourth close game in a role. There would be one more but this team was determined.

As pointed out we won 7-0 and this was the second of three shutouts our defense had. The timing was perfect. [IMG]

I was 13. I could only hear Kern Tips call Duke's interception in the end zone after Trull and Elkins pitched and caught the Bears down the field.

I made a drawing that week of the interception from a news photo and it hangs on my wall to this day - right next to my autographed picture of Mr Carlisle.

The game had a magic to it then that is gone, but I still find so many bits of that magic in it still.
