Right, and yet we have posters on the board with direct knowledge of the Sabans purchasing a home in Austin. Austin ain't no vacation spot- it's an awesome place to live.
All I can say is, I've lived through the post-Darrell, the post-Fred, the post-David and the post-John coaching anticipations and searches. This one, the presumed post-Mack, is wearing my *** out. January - or whenever we finally name our new head guy - cannot get here fast enough.
Knowledge of an actual home purchase or knowledge of a home-shopping trip? I hadn't heard that there was an actual purchase.
I know posts like this one are met with well-deserved skepticism and ridicule, but a friend of mine who is an usher at our church and who played for the Horns back in the 1980s told me this past Sunday that he has it on good authority Mack will announce his retirement on December 2 (effective after the end of the season). I will duck and cover now.
Saban "forced" me into trips to Pasadena, New Orleans, Miami .... I'll forever be happy with those memories. Now he'll do the same for Horn fans!
I'm referring to other posters who have mentioned this knowledge of a Saban home purchase- it's not my 'direct' knowledge. And then J Shuttlesworth and crew have referred to this as well. If you're reading this- speak up.
Glad this is all figured out now. Mack out and Saban on the way in. The dream scenario and enough convincing evidence is provided on this thread to satisfay me. History tells us people have been burned at the stake on less credible evidence.
Right. So it's all second hand information about saban's who've supposedly looking for houses. I'm not saying that saban won't end up in Austin next year. But to me relying on second info about a supposed house hunting trip by his wife as iron clad confirmation that it's a done deal seems a bit silly.
The WSJ article about the Sabans is funny. When he left Michigan State, the MSU AD came over to his house, noticed his wife was gone and said- "wait a minute, you told me you were staying but where's your wife?" Nick didn't lie to the AD, he said, "She's in Baton Rouge." The next day he announced the move. I don't have direct knowledge of a Saban home purchase, but I've read it here on HornFans by other posters, and I've read it on BurntOrangeNation via Jesus Shuttlesworth.
These house buying rumors if true, would seem to indicate that an offer has been made and at least a tentative deal has already been agreed to by all parties. I just find that very hard to believe.
I have stated many times that I really don't want Saban (as if anyone cares) but, the rumors are very believable. The MB retirement announcement of Dcember 2nd also seems plausible although, if Saban is a done deal, the speculation management for the time between 12/2 and the championship game will be immense. That is, unless Auburn beats Bama (and I hope they do), and FSU and OSU (puke) remain undefeated. So what I am saying is that "if indeed Saban is coming," I would think that the University -- and Alabama/Saban -- would prefer that Mack delay his announcement for a month... Let me add that if Saban is coming, everyone -- including the powers at Alabama, must already know. Personally, I'm holding out hope for someone else, like John Harbaugh.
Stanhin, funny you said that, because I have a similar source that says exactly the same thing. Except she's not an usher
