Co-Champions?

If Texas and OSU finish with 8-1 records, would UT be Big 12 co-champion? I’m not talking about who advances to a BCS bowl on the basis of tie breaker rules. In the old SWC, tied records meant co-championships, with one team advancing to the Cotton Bowl based on head-to-head records, etc.

The answer is yes. Ou claims last years Big XII championship even though they lost and in basketball KU claims two regular season Big XII championships in years that they tied Texas but lost the regular season game.

That said, it is hard to envision a scenario under which this Texas team goes into Waco next week and gets a win. Not impossible but pretty freaking hard to find one.

Co champs yes but OSU would go to the AQ BCS game for the B12 champ because we lost the head to head with OSU.

This year might be the first time ever that I will be pulling for the Sooners against OSU. Their game should be over, or close to it before we take on Baylor, so we'll know what's on the line by kickoff, or shortly thereafter.

It is incredible to think of even a co-championship team with the worst QB I've ever seen start for the Longhorns. I would take Marvin Kristynik in a heartbeat over McCoy! The gods must be crazy!

Are the big XII tie breaker rules still as they were in '08? So, if ou beats osu and we somehow beat Baylor, does it go by BCS standing? If so, doesn't ou back into another Big XII title even though we beat them? If they beat osu, they would probably have the higher standing.

Chicago, yes, OU probably goes which would absolutely suck. They are the luckiest team I've ever seen as far as things like that.

    Tiebreaker rules
The following procedure will determine the Big 12 Conference representative to the Bowl Championship Series in the event of a first-place tie:

    a) If two teams are tied, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.
    b) If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 4 will be followed until a determination is made. Once a team has been eliminated from a multi-team comparison, it is dropped from further comparisons. If only two teams remain tied after any step, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.

Step 1) The records of the three teams will be compared against each other
Step 2) The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in the conference
Step 3) The highest ranked team in the first Bowl Championship Series Poll following the completion of Big 12 regular season conference play shall be the representative, unless the two highest ranked tied teams are ranked within one spot of the other in the BCS poll. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two highest ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the Bowl Championship Series.
Step 4) The representative will be chosen by draw.

If Texas, BU, OU and OSU all have 2 losses, Step 1 eliminates OU and BU (1-2 vs other three teams). Then OSU holds tiebreaker over Texas. OSU goes.

Thanks for that tie breaker explanation. I get so sick of ou backing into stuff. Glad that can't be the case here.

Anything less than a BCS bowl is a disappointment as the Horns will be slotted for a 2nd or 3rd tier bowl. Too bad the Horns dont have full control of their destiny with the loss to OSU. I can't imagine the Cotton bypassing Baylor *if* they beat Texas. We all should root for TCU.

If OSU beats OU and BU wins out, there is a reasonable chance that BU would get a BCS bid and we'd probably go to Jerryworld.

Whoever has the first pick after the BCS (I believe that's now the Alamo and not the Cotton but I could be wrong) would probably rather have a 9-3 OU team over a disgruntled 8-4 Texas team.

If OU beats Okie st, then that will be two losses in conference for both. If that happens then the championship game is Texas vs Baylor who both only have one loss in conference. With that being said, we are going to get spanked in Waco.

Top team - Fiesta (since no chance of NCG)
Then picks in order for Big 12:
    Cotton
    Alamo
Wild Wings (or whatever is in Tempe)
    Holiday
    Texas
    Pinstripe

I have been told that if MB announces that he won't be here next year before selections, the Cotton will do whatever they can to get us to Jerryworld.

Personally, I'd rather go to ANY bowl than go to Jerryworld.

Ah yes, it was Alamo jumping Holiday rather than Alamo jumping Cotton.

With BU's win today over TCU, OU backing in is not possible, right?

With OU win over OSU next week, OSU is out as is OU with 2 losses leaving two 1 loss teams, UT and BU. The winner of that game (UT v BU) wins the conference as only remaining 1 loss team.

OSU win over OU leaves 3 1 loss teams (OSU, BU, UT), and OSU would tie with winner of UT v BU. OSU beat both BU and UT so OSU represents conference regardless who they are tied with.

So, UT win gives them outright title or ties them with OSU. Tie would send OSU to represent Big12 in BCS game.

    Go Sooners and Hook'em Horns

Sure have learned a lot reading this thread. I really hate the fact that we have to let the goomers help us when we have so much talent. [IMG]

Oklahoma would have lost out on the 4-way tie though, by virtue of going 1-2 against the other teams involved.

Hooked - I seem to recall that it was Mike Cordero ..and yes, I remember them both. I think that was Coach Royal's last season.
