What BVHorn said. I will add a major thank you for the 2006 Rose Bowl, still the best game I've ever seen.

I had the pleasure of meeting both Mack and Sally at a spring game, both classy people. [IMG]

He definitely brought fire and enthusiasm back to a program that I feared would be mired in mediocrity forever. He provided me with one of the biggest thrills of my life and a moment that I will never forget - I still remember jumping up and down like a crazy person in my living room like it was yesterday!

I may have at times been embarrassed by the outcome of a game, but I was never ever embarrassed of this program or of how Mack ran it. It certainly wasn't perfect, but you never doubted how much he cared about his kids and this university. I hope he's around for a whole bunch of standing ovations at DKR in the future, and maybe that will help ease the memories of the past few years, which can't have been pleasant.

This belated hypocrisy of praise of Mack Brown is disgusting

I don't think it is hypocrisy. I can still thank Mack for the 3 games in the Rose Bowl, and other great games and seasons. I was at all three and though the last one didn't end like we wanted, we were still in the MNC game. Mack thought he could turn things around after the 2010 season, and he was given the chance to do that. It hasn't worked out, so it's time to let someone else try. I do think that after the dust has settled Mack will be revered as Darrell was. And he deserves it. But Darrell knew when it was time to go, and I think Mac does also.

I'll thank him in 4 years after the 4 years' shitshow has started to subside. While I appreciate what he did, he erased most goodwill with some of the most embarrassing football Texas has seen - ever. He will never be as revered as DKR. He does not want recognize when it's time to go. I want him fired, frankly.

Maybe not many of us remember that before Mack came here there were lots of empty seats in a smaller stadium and an enormous percentage of fans who made no effort to don school colors for the game. Heck, even after Mack got here weren't there dollar end zone seats available for some games at Kroger?

Recruiting was a matter of hoping wide receivers and linebackers too slow to get a shot at Miami, Nebraska or Colorado would be savvy enough to help us compete on Saturdays.

Thank you Mack for making the Texas Program so big time that a lot of Longhorn fans can't spare a minute to be gracious to you as you depart.

It's not hypocrisy, bro. I am still a huge David Robinson fan, even though I do not want him starting at center for my team this season. I expect I will be a Mack Brown fan for life. I will be a Mack Brown fan if he retires this week & I will be a Mack Brown fan if he leads Texas next year. I appreciate everything Mack has done for my school. I wish my son were old enough to play (or to have played) for Mack.

I’m not sure it's the right move to fire Mack Brown b/c we could slide back down into the muck. I recall those nightmare years. On the other hand, it does not seem that Texas is on an upward trajectory. Hence, I sympathize with the fans who want a leadership change. Personally, I feel the offensive play calling has been poor this season. People tell me recruiting has suffered.

So, maybe we do need new blood. It happens. Regardless, I respect Mack for what he’s accomplished at Texas as well as for the classy way he’s done it.

But isn't there probably a bit of hypocrisy when a lot of people just kept quiet while mack was being crucified for quite some time, and being made to look like a worthless coach and much worse than he ever was? Even as a human being, for that matter - with so many comments on his arrogance, ego-centric nature, excuse-making behavior, and all of those exaggerated charges. Most of us didn't fight hard against those charges, or we gave up on fighting those screaming for his head.

Then to see an outpouring of emotions, after we mostly stayed quiet as he was being pilloried on this board, indeed smells of some hypocrisy.

We should also remember that it is quite poor form to start clapping for somebody before he finishes talking. That is being sarcastic to the speech-maker. Mack hasn't said he is leaving. It is disrespectful to him to be doing this till he says it.

I don't think the posters above thought of all that, and I think generally everybody posted only with good intentions. The posts were genuine. But this thread is still a bit awkward, if not hypocritical.

I just wanted to thank the man.
    Nothing more. Nothing less.

But I can see how some of Mack's strongest supports feel betrayed.
    I respect that.

The program is cruising along at an altitude of about 3rd best team in the Big 12. If nothing changes, that will slowly degenerate to the middle of the pack. The uncertainty, among other things, makes a fix by Mack highly unlikely. Many of the reasons for the downward trajectory are, at least in part, attributable to Mack Brown's decisions.

Also attributable to Mack Brown is a renewed relationship with the Texas High School coaching community, multiple 10 win seasons, a family like environment often for kids who had never had that before, no NCAA issues, being fair to kids who got in trouble and being decisive with those who were not going to stay out of trouble, filling the seats, filling the coffers, playing for two national championships and winning one.

I believe change is necessary. I wish for the benefit of everyone involved, that it was not. But it is unfair and mean spirited to kick someone like Mack who has worked very hard to try and win for The University of Texas at Austin. He has never embarrassed us off the field. He has been loyal. Why can't we just say that it is time and thank him for the body of work and leave it at that? I am hopeful for the future of Longhorn Football, but I may not be around the next time we win it all, and I was only a little kid when DKR was doing it. It is possible that Mack Brown coached the only National Championship game that I will ever see the Longhorns win. Some of the things he does, and a lot of the things he says, leave me asking WTF? But what he did was difficult, and overall, beneficial to the University of Texas. I have to love anyone that brings glory to The University of Texas.

    Hook 'em, Mack.
