Has anyone else heard of this? I hadn't until just a bit ago so I put the question in Google and a BUNCH of articles came up. Mack would be the anti-pellini and I think he would do well. A lot of articles say Mack had barely resigned when contacted but Nebraska denies it all of course. No links, too many to choose from.
I think I heard that Army contacted him about their coaching job as well. I'm willing to stand corrected if that is wrong.
I would much rather him at Army than Nebraska. I think he would get much more job satisfaction up there. Imagine him in the living room of a big time running qb recruit contemplating Rutgers, UConn, or an academy. "Son I've seen skills like yours on a few guys I've coached"
There have been rumors about Mack to Army for several years, Mack is a huge traditionalist and has always talked about Army in terms of the incredible history there. I heard in 2007 about a rumored Mack move to Army from some Army grads who would definitely be in the know and they both said that they expected Mack to eventually head to West Point when and if his days at Texas came to an end. There is a yahoo article that Army contacted him last week but that he wasnt ready to jump right back in. That story I believe because it matches what I have heard in years past that someday Mack might well end up there and it fits who he is. As for Nebraska, that may or may not have some substance, more likely rogue individuals contacting Mack just to get under Pellini's skin than real interest.
Yes, Nebraska wants it class back and Mack would deliver. He's perfectly suited for Nebraska, its fans and could turn their recruiting around. Plus he beat the Huskers time and again. Just depends on what Mack wants to do.
When Bellini said something like, "Go ahead and fire me.", talk was that his buy-out amount is too steep for NB to pay right now.
If Mack went to Nebraska, given his history of beating Nebraska, they'd get even better than Texas A&M at winning their own spring game!
