Anyone else noticing that as each prospective coach becomes unencumbered after their bowl obligations, the rumors and stories ratchet up. It happened with Franklin and Strong, and it is happening with Briles, Dantonio and Shaw. Saban will be unencumbered after tonight, and after Monday, it's Fisher and Malzahn. (From my perspective, hopefully Harbaugh will be unencumbered after this weekend.) It seems to me that Patterson and his posse may be doing a good job of vetting candidates. Given the enormity of the job and the scrutiny under which they will be under once the selection is made, the methodology being employing makes sense. (If indeed that is what they are doing...and I believe that it is.) We haven't heard much about Gruden and especially Mora, which makes me wonder. Same with Gundy. Of course, that could mean that there is no interest -- on one side or both. However, it could also mean that the clamps are on very tight, intentionally. My guess is that we will not have our answer until all of the possible candidates that could be considered, are. That would mean at least mid next week.
Agree. Former players backing Briles is interesting, but what that means in the real world is really an unknown. Former players want who ever is winning now regardless of how they are winning on the field; in the recruiting wars; and the type of overall program management the guy will bring. As long as someone creditable is on the payroll by the 14th Texas will be ok. However the sooner the better as having coordinators in place will help with the recruiting starting on the 15th.
We know all the rumors of people said to have been contacted BY UT We have no idea of who has contacted the Horns and I would guess that is a long list
