Not good IMO. Defensive minded guy who had a good qb. In a weak conference. If its true will support. Very curious hire though .
Don't get that, if you are taking a chance, I'd have gone with Franklin. Better recruiter, younger, coaches in a major conference. Oh well, hopefully we were able to save some cash on his salary.
This will be dangerous, possibly revolutionary...I'm going to reserve judgment until the man has coached a game, maybe 2 hell I might wait till the end of the year. Rally round the family m/
Well, here we go. I've always wondered what a good AA coach could do at Texas. Charlie seems to be a good coach. And he's doggone sure AA. Hope for the best.
If true I am excited. Being a fan of the game of college football in general he's not new to me or many others who follow outside of a bubble. Exciting hire, exciting time to be a Horn. I hope he does excellent. I think he will. I too am willing to be a revolutionary too and wait to see what happens and not be doom and gloom. However, some are wired that way and have to be drama queens so have at it, I suppose. Hook 'em Horns!
I'm underwhelmed as well and like Handler, my thought is that if we were going to take a chance, Franklin would have seemed to make more sense. The other oddity is that Strong would not seem to have the media intangibles that I thought we wanted. But if it's true, Strong will have my full support. Perhaps Patterson knows something that we don't. I hope so.
@SIPeteThamel 8m High ranking Texas official said Texas and Charlie Strong have agreed to terms. Five years, $5 mill per.
I really didn't think they would hire him. But now it all comes down to who he brings in with him and hopefully he doesn't bring his current OC.
So who the heck knows? ESPN.com news services | January 3, 2014 Louisville coach Charlie Strong has not been formally offered the head coaching job at Texas but would accept it if he was, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy on Friday night. Another source told McMurphy that Strong said he has not accepted the Texas job, but wants to talk to Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich and university president Jes Ramsey. Horns247 reported earlier Friday that Strong would be Texas' next coach. Texas is looking to replace Mack Brown, whose era with the Longhorns ended with Monday's 30-7 loss to Oregon in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
Great hire, if true. I thought Strong should have gotten the Florida job years ago. If he's the new coach then I'm very happy.
PH, come on now, lighten up. We are fans. That's why this message board exists. And some of the posters, yours truly "excluded," are pretty darn knowledgeable.
Strong is reported to be meeting with Jurich and UL President Ramsey right now. Man is coming to Texas.
