What is this world coming to where were going to monitor what comes out of grown mens mouths on the football field? Really a penalty for bad language? My god i feel like im back in elementary where you put a quarter in the swear jar. This is getting way out of hand. Lets just play touch football and everyone get a trophy and we all go home happy. I think ill turn to hockey where they still know how to play.

hockey is soccer for guys who like to wear skates

The N word has a long and unfortunate history and some people find it real offensive------like farting in church only worse.

In deference to those who find it real offensive I am ok with punishing those who use it in circumstances where the people the word is directed at are involved. So it would be ok to use it at the rodeo and republican precinct caucuses in Mississippi but nowhere else.

You have to admit that most if not all of the N-word flying around on the field is between black guys, which is somewhat socially acceptable. If a white guy were to use it on the field, you wouldn't need the rule as the black guys would most likely administer a punishment right there on the spot.

So the Democratic National Convention would be a negatory?

Is it still OK if Malcolm Brown uses it after a late hit on the sideline? Assuming, of course, that the hit was delivered by a black athlete? I mean, an AA athlete?

Can Richie Incognito use it in a locker room, but not on his Tweets?

    I'm just seeking clarification.

I remember a time growing up when my buddies and I would call each other taco-bender, peckerwood, honky, nigga, etc. But I considered none of them racists. I can see the point that older generation AA are making, but when your own race reclaims that word and uses it as a term of endearment, I think that's ok. As an adult of course my friends and I don't speak that way, but if Malcolm wants to use that word on field just like he did in the Alamo Bowl, I'm not really up in arms about it.

I hear Mexicans call each other "Meskins" all the time.
Nobody ever gets offended until those pushing a political agenda run with it.

I don't know. I can see both sides but we are getting carried away with it, in my worthless opinion.

Am I gonna get banned for my honesty?

Not to thread jack, but huisache could not be more wrong.Having coached and played both hockey and futbol, they have significant differences. Soccer has a chesslike quality to in it (strategically exposing weaknesses in the opponents defense); hockey is much more tactical and played at twice the speed.

And don't compare a soccer shoulder charge to a body check (either open ice or near the boards), the only similarity is in the purpose of both and (occasionally
    ) the approach.

And consider the idea that you can swing your stick at a guy who is 4 feet away, give him a nice bruise, and your penalty is to go rest for 2 minutes or less.

The only thing soccer has on hockey in the way of violence is the lack of armor. But if you bring up the gash to Wayne Rooney's thigh, I'll counter with Clint Malarchuk having his jugular sliced by the skate of Steve Tuttle. Gruesome.

Sorry if I went overboard. I just bristle at the idea of divers in cleats being compare to a hockey player.

puck: I was engaging in rhetorical hyperbole, to use the legal term. I played hockey once for about five minutes and agree it is not remotely like soccer.

Why? Do you want him? [IMG]

Back to the subject......Years ago I played in a band and I was the only white guy. My best friend (to this day) was the singer and he told me that what pissed them off was the way we said it. If we said nigga it wouldnt be an issue. Just his take I guess. However, the word was prevalent in the band. One of my favorite moments was we were trying to figure out this paticular chord and we could not seem to find the right one. The keyboardist, guitarist and I were trying everything we knew and the singer (who didnt play anything) just out of the blue said "try G". Which was completely wrong. The guitar player looked at him and said "G????......nigga please!!!!! Needles to say that phrase became a mainstay in the band. We still say it to each other when we talk. Good times.... Anyone who believes that the usage of this word is either acceptable or unacceptable based on what your race is, is very certainly a racist.

    Case closed.

So lets DISCRIMATORILY pick a discrimination term.

I mean really? We're only gonna fine people for using the word that's offensive to ONE group of people?

What if the only word that was fined was HONKIE or WETBACK or CHINK or ******.

They are all wrong. TO just say ONE word is fineable is to untie the rope you are trying to tie by banning the word to begin with. JMHO

I agree with OrangeChipper. This subject is beyond absurd. Doesn't the NFL or the NCAA have better things to worry about?

Who gives a crapola what players call each other on the field, or in locker room? Do we really want to legislate behavior? Has anyone ever heard of the first amendment? This is laughable, and pathetic.

Let me add that if we allow our authorities to control behavior, what's next? Making people do something that they may not want to do, like buy health insurance? Oh, whoops. Never mind.
