Please guys and gals, the Lornhorn family should show the world what it means to be a Longhorn. With all the back and forth nonesense (most I have been a part of) goings on here. Let's do something we all can agree on. It is easy to give and any amount would be great. If everyone here gave up a Starbucks for today and donated $5, this would go viral. May God bless the Santos family during this difficult time.
I'm in. Get well, Mary. Those of you who post on other Horn sites might encourage them to post this if they haven't already.
I actually heard about this a couple of days before this post and had already made a donation. My mother passed away after a prolonged illness when I was only eleven, so I know exactly what it's like to go through something like this. My thoughts and prayers to Dalton, his mother and all his loved ones. Get well soon!
Any risk of this kind of fundraising being an NCAA violation? Maybe I'm just unhealthily suspicious of the NCAA, but fundraising, even in this kind of dire scenario, seems like the kind of thing they'd find against the rules.
SyracuseHorn I thought of the same thing before I posted this. After having cancer five times I had the good fortune of not fighting $ and health at the same time. What a wonderful time for all of us to show up as a Longhorn family for Dalton Santos and his mother. He tweeted to the general public not as a player but as a concerned son. It was not my intent to do anything wrong but to help out a Longhorn in need.
Doubtful it's against a rule. This online fundraiser was set up by a woman who is a friend or family member, not by Dalton. Even if he had, i cant imagine the ncaa trying to tie-in a family's plea for assistance for a sick mother without health insurance to Texas football despite all of the "Hook 'ems" from donors. They'd be chickenshit to try. Interesting to see some of the exes who donated and posted their names: James Patton, Kevin Watler, Cosmo Palmieri, among others. I'm sure many more have and stayed anonymous. The Longhorn Family. So get your horns up and break out that credit card for a good cause.
16:40. hrs.. Wed, 104.9 FM.... Buck & E show is carrying a previous interview (I guess earlier on 104.9) with Dalton. So it's made it to 104.9.
TT... up to $37,000 as of 8pm Wed, Austin time. Got a few spots coverage on 104.9 today. Word is probably just now circulating wide enough to bring in possible bigger donors.
Local news KXAN had a feature abt it on their 6 PM news (not during sports) with a vid of Dalton getting very teary-eyed thanking everyone for all the love being shown his family, not only by contributions but with the notes of caring and concern on the site. Very touching. People have given $5 to $500, and many anonymous donors have probably given more than that. You don't have to show your name or your amount of giving, so please consider giving something to help out this Longhorn family in need.
The goal started out at $25,000, I believe, which was quickly reached. Dalton said in his tv interview he was expecting a few hundred, "maybe a thousand." So they set a new goal of $75K which I expect they can reach in the next three weeks. However, the news report also said the total cost of the operation will be about $150,000. Her recuperation will take about 10 weeks, so she will be unable to work as a nurse during all that time, so more needs to be done for them.
The fundraiser is now closed. Dalton's Mom is doing very well, $69,798 raised of $75,000 goal. Great to be part of the Longhorn family.
