Longtime Texas football coach Mack Brown may be stepping away from the gridiron sidelines, but he will reportedly still be around the game as a studio analyst. Link
Count me in the camp of not recovered enough from Mack's slow bleeding of our program to desire seeing his smiling PR type speeches on ESPN. Ags continue to embarrass us in recruiting (thanks Mack) and we've yet to be able to show we are truly on the rise with Strong's team not taking the field yet. We don't even really know just how bad of shape Mack left us in. I don't think this is the case, but the old regime may have tainted our older players so bad it's too late for them to make significant changes to gain aggression and swagger. Hell, I still cringe when I see the commercial on LHN when Mack says "Justin is confident and a really great kicker". Just hearing the smirky voice he's using bothers me for some reason. Maybe just all the bs that came from his speeches last few years while we floundered as a joke to the nation and media. Time heals all, and I'll appreciate Mack again when the wounds heal, but for now I'd rather not hear him blab generalities and positive PR nonsense on gamedays. They already have one old coach (Corso) who pumps sunshine and doesn't speak negatively about teams or players who are sucking. Do they really need another?
I vote yes. Good luck Mack. It just took him a while to realize how stressful coaching a big time program was. Now he can sit back and be a wise elder statesman who has been there and done that. This will be a much easier gig and he should do it well.
Is this the same guy that got Ricky Williams to stay for his senior season and helped Texas win a NC with a QB that never won a state title and can't make it in the NFL? Yeah he sucks and my butt is all hurt because I'm a crybaby
