Charlie Strong's poor first impression National writer: During awkward speech, Charlie Strong shows he's no Mack Brown
Smell a rat indeed. When Mack Brown was hired there were comments about how he sounded like Mr. Haney from Green Acres. Some even said there was a physical resemblance. Now this article comes out by a writer named Travis Haney? From Mack's home state and the SEC no less? That has to be more than just a coincidence.
Well when Mack was here everyone said "Anybody but Mack" and we got a good one, yet too many people are trying to find a fault with him before he coaches one game. I think it's time to just shut up about all this media crap and get behind this coach and show some support.
WINNING will take care of everything....maybe Charlie had a bad day....he is no Mack Brown....only Mack Brown is MACK BROWN....(God, BLESS HIM...) Give this highly qualified guy a chance....he's a good man and will WIN!!!
The story is a falsehood filled hatchet job. The organizers of the clinic have publicly refuted almost every aspect of Haney's story. It appears that plenty of folks are willing to stand up for Coach Strong regarding this event and in general. The question is whether the publisher of Haney's article will set things straight. Doubtful.
The OP's post is a re tread attack, inventing an issue where there is none. TT has gone from an unabashed sunshine pumper to a bitter negativist. Why?
being popular is overrated... let us let Charlie put in some work and then let's talk about his social skills a few years from now if ever... ho hum
Third Coast you made me LOL with the post about Mr. Haney from Green Acres and Mr. Travis Haney from TN In the meantime, let all the outside sports media & fans be critical of CS... let's wait and see what he does on the field this fall. Despite the big question marks at QB and OL, I think we are in for a very pleasant surprise with this team. IMHO Coach Strong does not need to speak like a CEO if our student-athletes are going to class, staying eligible, staying out of trouble, playing hard for 4 quarters and the team is winning.

Gregg Popovich might be the worst media interview on the planet. How much rah rah do Spurs fans ever get from the man they consider a God among coaches? Seems to me his coaching resume says he's a total badass every NBA owner would give his left nut to hire away from SA. Winning and excellence is all that matters in coaching. Strong will do all the talking he needs to do to our team. Ask any Horns player how good of a speaker he is when addressing the team. I'm sure the response will be quite opposite from this nonsense. A real coach is not afraid to let his performance speak for itself. Hell let Patterson be the mouthpiece, he clearly loves to give interviews about our glorious future.
I have to admit that at cursory glance I thought this thread was titled, "Strong Snuggles" and figured it would be people worrying if he was going to be too soft on the players. WHEW!
The criticism on Strong at the Angelo Football Clinic is from a guy who spent a year reporting on the Sooners. Travis Haney joined ESPN in April 2012 as Insider's national college football writer. He previously covered the University of Oklahoma Sooners for The (Oklahoma City) Oklahoman for one season... He sneaked into the lecture room at the Clinic where no reporters are allowed. Had no badge and was not assigned to be there. One of the co-founders of the clinic has spoken up with outrage of the mis-representation of Strong's appearance. This is the Barking Carnival page that covers it in general. The Link This is the link to the 24x7 interview with the co-founder, named Young, goes over the matter. Smut happens!! The Link This kind of stuff has gone on before by reporters who either went to OU, or spent time in Oklahoma reporting on the Sooners. There was the guy (forgot his name) ended up as a NY Times contributor, a few seasons back, who took the same liberties. I thought OU fans didn't have that much to fear, but apparently they do.
What a load of bull caca. First off, any opinion based media anymore does not give a crap about accuracy or fact. All these guys do is print what will get a reaction, preferably a negative one as to start a debate. Secondly, as per National Enquirer standards, no quotes or sources are identified. Only anonymous and unverifiable references. The article is a joke and carries no substance of any kind and Travis Haney can kiss my *** for trying stir up crap where no crap existed. And ESPN can do a lip lock in the same place for having tabloid wannabes like him on their staff. 55 days to kickoff
He struggled some recruiting this year as incoming new coach. I don't know why a guy coming to a new job in a new state with a month to shore up recruiting while putting together a completely new staff and finding a place to live would struggle. Last I looked, his 2015 class was in the top 10 nationally and #1 in the Big 12. But let's keep talking about how lousy his recruiting is.
Yes. ESPN has us at #13. Last time I looked it was #9 so we slipped. 247Sports still has us #1 in the Big 12. Still pretty good for new coach. I have no complaints.
So you pick and choose which service fits your argument? I could do the same and say rivals is right having us at #34 but that's silly. So is saying a bunch of 3 star recruits makes the best class in the Big XII.
No, I don't pick and chose. I go to ESPN and check **** out. Don't care to find every site and average numbers, nor do I have the time. But I found another site that has Texas at #3 in the big 12 so I guess that puts us at #2. So everybody in the Big 12 must be sucking.
