I understand that they are not returning for their hearings. That's a consequence of an overburdened judicial system though in that there is a weeks/months backlog thus rather than give them a hearing right away we're forced to let them go because we can't afford to incarcerate them until the hearing. I agree that the "how they qualify" needs to be addressed. It seems the best way is for legislation to define that rather than some government bureaucracy. Texas Senator John Cornyn R and Texas House member Henry Cuellar D have presented bills in each house to change the way illegal children from countries other than Mexico are processed . The legislation would rewrite the law to allow Central American minors be treated like those from Mexico and Canada, who can be deported more quickly. Under the plan, unaccompanied minors from any country would be able to have an immigration court hearing within seven days of their processing by Health and Human Services, and an immigration judge would be required to rule within three more days on whether the child would be allowed to stay or be deported. The bill authorizes 40 new immigration judges to help process the cases… The Cornyn-Cuellar bill does not strip all the protections in the 2008 law, which mandates that the Border Patrol turn over children from Central America to Health and Human Services within 72 hours of apprehension until they face immigration court proceedings. The new legislation would maintain that provision. Any guesses on which chamber passed this and which does not even though a minority member is bringing it to their chamber?

You likely wouldn't know this but Henry Cuellar is a pretty strong loyal Dem in a pretty strong loyal Dem district. I doubt he allowed a poison pill to be included in a bill he authored. The problem won't be in the House though, it will come in the Senate.
Amazing that ABC didn't find one newsworthy aspect to this crisis and didn't even mention it on their Nightly news network broadcast last night. didn't think there was anything newsworthy about dead children washing up from the Rio Grande or that a bi partisan bill to expedite deportation will be presented in both Chambers or that cities counties and even a state are refusing to allow the illegals to be sent there. BUT it was deemed newsworthy that the cruise ship that sank off Italy 2.5 years ago is being raised. That is an issue that affects all Americans. It's hilarious, as a long time member of this board, that this wasn't such a huge issue from 2000-2008, when the population of illegal immigrants went from 8.4 million to 12 million ----- an average of an additional 450,000 per year. But then, Bush was president. Now all of the sudden 60k children (so far this year) is a huge deal. Y'all are so freakin' hypocritical. U.S. drug policy/the war on drugs has turned Guatamala into a narco state with the highest murder rate in the world. End the futile war on drugs and a huge portion of this problem goes away.

Why shouldn't every person crossing the border not receive monthly $10,000 gift cards to Walmart? (certainly not Costco or Target of course) Give them a tablet of flight vouchers as well. I guess they can buy luggage at Walmart but if not maybe they need a voucher for that as well. We know the underwear is on order but maybe they can get that at Walmart till the order is fulfilled. Section 8 housing needs to be cleared out so we can let them live for free along with a tax refund to be sure they don't have to pay for their rightly deserved Obamacare.
