With heavy heart, I am passing along the sad news of the loss of one of the Longhorns' finest and most colorful players of all time, Jeff Leiding. Jeff and I had more fun than the law allows and he will be sorely missed by all that knew his love of life, laughter, and linebacking. One of the toughest guys to ever wear a Longhorn uniform...and very deserving of the #60.
Will forever remember his hit on Marcus Dupree. The explanation point on a Red River beat down. RIP Big Man. Prayers to all those who loved him.
Heart attack. From a very close source. I forgot that he was a grad of the HS my son now attends here in tulsa. Quit a few folks up here knew him.
I tutored the athletes in the early 80's and got to know Jeff well. He was a great guy. GREAT. A man. I ended up living in Tulsa for three years in the late 80's and ran into Jeff in a 7-11 with one of his younger siblings...he was as warm and friendly as anyone.... REST IN PEACE, buddy....so glad you came our way...
I remember one particular Friday night at Uncle Nasty's ... and that's all I'll say about that. Rest in peace, Jeff.
Terrible. 52 is too young. One of my favorite players of all time. My favorite defense of all time is the 1983 defense and when I think of the 1983 defense, the first player that pops in my head is Jeff. Would be good to show young LBs clips of Jeff's attitude, effort and performance playing the position of LB. A sad day, indeed. Prayers to his family.
One who truly deserved the honor of wearing #60. Great player, great guy. Rick, Jeff & Mike - the Three Musketeers Wasn't his first play the leap over three r-Kansas blockers on Labor Day, 1980? Also remember him wanting to "kill" Bill Began in the middle of Texas Stadium on the call against SMU. RIP - a true Longhorn Legend.

That leap over the so-called blockers and diving into the Arkansas return man was one of the greatest plays I ever saw. You just knew he was going to be one of the great ones. RIP, Mr. Leiding.
RIP Jeff Leiding # 60 I mentioned your passing on Tulsa sports radio. You were great and will be missed.
Been a rough streak for us aging 'Horns. First James Street, then Jimmy Saxton and now Jeff Leiding. The middle of the best defensive college football team ever. Check out the '83 "horns, one of 3 National Championships we should have had that slipped away. . The Link
