Whiterock - "silently lurking", dude, where the hell have you been? We have missed your signature line banging on the keyboard and photos on the countdown thread
I mostly lurk now. Been on since 01. Not many post in last 5-6 years. I always read the boards though
Some guy: He said he had presents and he counted four. His boss: He said "present and accounted for" you dumb ***. Some guys: That's what I said he said!!! His boss: do not breed ... I beg you
This is one of the first sites I ever visited much and started reading the threads thirteen years ago. Have posted every now and then, but mostly lurked. In the last few years there has been a massive migration of posters leaving and this site has dwindled to the point where there is very little conversation. I have tried another forum, but the constant vulgarity and hatred ticks me off every time I give it another shot so mostly I don't visit Horn forums these days. Coming back here again for the season opener brings back memories of listening to games on the radio in the middle of the night (because I live overseas) while reading game threads.
I have tried to get on one of the other forums today. Can't. Server is locked up or something. Ironic.
I haven't posted on HF in probably 7 years, and it's obvious that a lot of people left around the same time I did. I think the censorship just got to people. I understand censoring curse words or vulgarity or whatever - who cares - but censoring ideas is very off-putting to a lot of people, especially on the internet, which is supposed to be one of the last places to speak freely. I think it's a double-edged sword at times. The other site I post on isn't censored at all. In general, I think the result is overwhelmingly positive - a lot of the posts are hilarious and brutally honest. But at the same time there are some outright lunatics who slip through the cracks and derail some threads. Anyways, clearly there aren't as many posters here as there used to be, and that's kinda sad. But I'm glad to see there's some people who still enjoy this site, because it was greatness back in the day.
Yeah, other than censorship, the server issues were problematic. A site that crashes after games isn't all that useful.
Its not just the censorship, it was the unevenness of how its applied that burned me. I got rebuked one day for posting that a certain ESPN personality was a twat. On the same day a favored poster who was known for being obscene had a thread titled "Our Offense: your Mother's used douchebag" which stood for weeks. I pointed out the unevenness of their censorship, and the Mod's response was more or less "I see your point, but oh well..."
I'm sure it takes quite a bit of effort to run a site like this, but I've never understood how the site's clock or time stamp for posts gets so far off. I think it's approaching three hours on the slow end right now. Amazing.
The board got boring with the same few knuckleheads posting over and over on every thread. I check the board out every now and then to see if that has changed.
