    It's posted.

    Any surprises?

I noticed that Khat Bell is listed as a MB/OH. Has her position always been posted as such?

It's more like a 2013-½ roster; incoming freshman libero/DS Cat McCoy (who won't arrive until fall semester) is not listed. Our other 2014 newcomer, middle blocker Mirta Baselovic, enrolled in January and is listed (though without a number). It's also possible we could see a departure or two before August.

Khat Bell has always been listed as MB/OH. She began her career as an OH. My recollection is that after a strong debut in the first match, she found little success playing outside, then became perhaps the most dominant player on the team after moving to the middle. There has long been speculation that she'll move back to the outside.

Relative to roster listings, game positions are rather, ahem, "fluid" throughout a season. Teams might or might not even list an "Opp" (or "RS"), even though someone has to play the position. The "Opp" might be on the roster as an "OH," "MB," or "Util." With the loss of Sha' Dare and the injuries to Nicole and Tiffany, Texas had no full-time "Opp" in 2013. When our 'Horns settled into a 5-1 they featured a three-middle rotation that had each middle playing two rotations at middle and one at RS. (Three middles times two rotations per middle gives the six required middle rotations; three middles times one rotation per middle plus three front row setter rotations gives the six required RS rotations.) From that perspective, any of Khat, Molly, or Chiaka could be capable of being a full-time Opp, though none are likely to be listed as such. We'll probably use an MB/OH and/or a Setter/OH for Opp in 2014.

I'll be very surprised to see our Setter/OH become a regular on the left side, and I'll be at least a bit surprised to see Khat become a regular on the left side...but that is possible if Tiffany proves to be especially strong as the Opp.

It will be another Jerritt Elliott team, so one thing we can count on is that lineups and roles will be very "fluid" for at least the first several weeks of the season.

BTW, I admire your enthusiasm looking forward to 2014. This squad has the potential to be truly exceptional, so it's hard to wait patiently for the season to get going.

    Thanks for your insightfulness!

I'm eager to see if they'll be playing in Dallas this Spring again as they have done the past couple of years. I'm eager to see Mirta and how she will gel with this team.

Are we sure that Cat McCoy is still planning on playing come fall? It has been very silent regarding her.

Noticed on the Texassports.com that Cat McCoy has been selected to the US Volleyball Women's Jr National Team (June 1 posting). So as summer and fall approach........she is now showing up on Longhorn stuff. Good news. I am sure she will be added to roster sometime !

No official announcement yet but Texas transferred in former Penn State player, Paulina Prieto Cerame.

She will be a redshirt-Soph this season and will be eligible to play 3 years at Texas. She has a wicked jump serve like Haley Eckerman and her hitting will remind you of Juliann Faucette, all power. In fact, she will remind you of Juliann. LINK

Paulina was a heavy Texas lean during the recruiting process but she ended up choosing the Nittany Lions. Last year, when PSU played Texas at Gregory gym, Paulina scored 18 points against the Horns.

She was ranked #7 in the 2012 class that includes Molly McCage (#1), Nicole Dalton (#6), Sara Hattis (#9), and Amy Neal (#18).

Be excited for this season!!! This team will be in the hunt for another National Title. I'm sure seniors Haley Eckerman and Khat Bell will do everything they can to go out with a bang!

Per Dallas Morning News on 8-09-14: Frisco Centennial: After compiling a 37-8 record and losing a five-set regional final to Prosper last season, Centennial could contend for a state title in what is now 5A (the old 4A). It is No. 3 in the preseason state rankings. All-state senior outside hitter/middle blocker Micaya White, who has committed to Texas, had an area-best 725 kills. White played for the Texas Advantage Volleyball club team that won a junior national title this summer.

Bedart-Ghani is class of 2015. She can play either outside hitter or opposite. She is in PrepVolleyball's Top 50 seniors-to-be (as are fellow 2015 commits, Micaya White and Morgan Johnson). She plays for Redondo Union H.S. in southern California.

Yesterday, it was reported that Texas received their first Class of 2017 verbal commitment from 6'3 MB/OH, Brionne Butler of Boling, TX.

Thanks but don't they post the pics of just the different classes; for example, pics of just the Seniors, and then of just the Juniors, etc?

If they do, I've never seen them. The closest I can imagine (though I'm not sure I've seen even this), is a photo of the seniors taken on senior day (at the end of the season).

National player rankings from PrepVolleyball.com have come out and Texas has brought in one of the top classes for 2015.

    #4 Micaya White
    #5 Yaasmeen Bedart-Ghani
    #11 Morgan Johnson

Prepvolleyball.com has authorized publication of the top ten class and has this to say about our recruits:

    4. Micaya White, 6-1 OH/MB, Centennial (Frisco, Texas), TAV -- Texas

Ever seen the top of the antenna? White has. There is extreme chaos on the other side of the net when she is in the air. Defenders have no chance when she swings an arm they cannot see. Better that they put their hands in front of their face and give up the point than have to schedule an appointment with Dr. Robert Rey. Beyond her extreme physicality, White, who sees the floor like no other, has a bevy of shots, including some sweet cutties opponents cannot read. Swift of foot, White also is a defensive demon. Spending much of her early volleyball years in the middle has helped her become a serious defensive asset, as she is an incredible blocker. Her hilarious personality makes her a friend to all. White is someone who keeps it light during the heavy times. The 2014 17 Open MVP has committed to Texas. She has the ability to start Day 1.

    5. Yaasmeen Bedart-Ghani, 6-4 OH, Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, California), Mizuno Long Beach – Texas

Bedart-Ghani is the kind of outside hitter defensive players tap out against. You wouldn’t find to face her heat either. An extreme power hitter, Bedart-Ghani has an arm that reminds South Bay denizens of Falyn Fonoimoana, who was No. 1 in the Class of 2010 Senior Aces. Nicknamed “Yaazie,” Bedart-Ghani also mixes in shots and changeups and is one of the few players in the country who can attack high ball out-of-system sets for kills. She puts up a huge block, has improved all-around skills, is fiercely competitive and strong academically. Committed to Texas, she will provide depth and more physicality on the pins for the Longhorns.
