But considering Knight sucked against the crappy teams OU played ... even with Alabama's weakness he still had to actually throw in the area of a receivers consistently, which he literally had not done all year long.
I agree with the WV comment but I also agree with Knight hadn't put the ball where it needs to be before that game. I don't know anything about TN's defense but I hope OU has a tough game with them. Again, I'll wait until they play a quality opponent to say Knight is a good qb. I just want to see him have a good game at least twice....
I meant a fluke in terms of Knight's numbers and accuracy. He had one great game after a series of bad ones, and was instantly anointed, while people forgot that in the game previous to that one, he got pulled for Bell late in the game at which point the OU offense woke up and won the game.
Interesting contrast between Diaz vs OU allowing 98 points in 2 games, and Greg Robinson allowing only 25 points in 2 games. The UNT game suggests we have more of a Robinson-esque defense than a Diaz-esque defense. And we have Charlie Strong as coach, who was the D-coordinator when Florida faced an OU offense averaging 54 per game that had put up 60+ in 5 straight, and held them to 14.
That was in the championship game, which usually is about the worst of all bowl games in terms of performance compared to ability. Too much time off, too much hype. The teams freeze up till the 3rd quarter. Look at AU-UO. Two super high scoring teams, and wasn't the halftime score 12-9 or some such? FLA did have a good defense that year, and credit Strong for it, but the title game is a unique situation that leads to poor offensive play in general.
Stat- You may be right on Knight but just for the sake of honesty. he wasnt pulled in the OSU game but seperated his shoulder in the first half. And against LaTech he was about 12 for 14 with 2 TDs and the team was up 31-0. He looked really good. He played pretty poorly later but its hard to judge when up so big. He also played pretty darn good against K ST last year. So in his last 4 games he has played great in 2 of them and really well in one and was injured in the other. I agree he is still somewhat untested but he is trending positively and he did look very good against La Tech in building a 31-0 lead.
Ah thanks Bronco, I stand corrected on the OSU game. Although I believe my point that he was doing poorly and Bell ended up doing better and saving the game still stands. Both QBs at various times looked bad and the other QB came in and looked a little better, but people only remember the most recent performance usually. Also point taken on bowl performances generally reducing offensive production more than defenses, but 54 -> 14 is a drastic change, and the OU offense didn't really look rusty, the FL defense just pulled out all the stops.
