All jokes aside, that's scary. N e d bag with a cause could cause a lot of damage like that ...

    Not clear on the concept.
1980s would have been an okay time for such things.
2014 not such a good time.

Yes, it is scary to consider that it could have been a killer, terrorist, spy, aggy, okie, or other ne'er-do-well, but I remember being 16,17,18, and I might have done a thing or two back then that I wouldn't consider doing now.
Sometimes young people do things they shouldn't, and wouldn't do a few years later.
Maybe we should chalk it up as a college student making a mistake in choice of Saturday night fun.

The evening news had a story about the drone flight.
I'm still unclear whether the flight was illegal or not. Anyone know?
I believe they said there were rules for commercial use of drones, but if the operator was an amateur...you can't fly one over 400 feet high, I suppose to avoid airplanes. You can't fly over a property without the owner's consent, according to the TV news, but I recall something about property owners do not own the airspace above their property.
This flight may not have been illegal. The drone owner was questioned and released by UTPD.
The FAA is trying to formulate rules for drones, but right now drones are classified as model airplanes and subject to their rules, apparently.
    Interesting legal issue.

I guess a better question is how does the APD or UTPD prevent drones from flying over the stadium?

Do we have a missile defense system? Do we have anti-drone lasers somewhere? What happens when they shoot the drone out of the sky and the destroyed fragments landing all over fans?

What is the plan to keep them from flying overheard, besides arresting someone or giving them a stern warning?

What kind of preventative(proactive) plan is in place?

I'm surprised this hasn't been done before. You can get long range drones that can go 2 miles away. And with your go pro you can see where you're going (plus you can program it to very specific coordinates). So, in theory, from my home less than 2 miles from the stadium, I could send it from my backyard to the stadium, take some pictures, and have it fly back. I don't know how they would catch someone who tried that (unless you were right outside the stadium).

Agree that it is scary stuff.

Any truth to the rumor that aggy is planning for a drone twice the size of ours? With a paint job like Sumlin's helicopter?
