He seems to be getting worse each game. This was a Baylor D that only had 4 returning starters.

    Gonna go and say it.

If Ash was here, we win this game today.

    Gonna be a LOOOOOONG year.

If Case McCoy was here, we win that game by 3 TDs.

When throws are down all day like that... too tight.

Just play the freakin Freshman!!! Redshirts are not that important these days. He ain't stay in four years and if they don't give him a chance, he just may transfer.

It will be interesting to see if there is an actual qb competition next year with Heard and Swoopes. From what I saw of Heard in HS he has quickness and some speed which Swoopes lacks. Swoopes is not the problem but I don't think he is the anwser.

I was asking the same question during the game. If he hits just half of the receivers in stride we score two more tds. That could have turned the game.

Oh well. He is young and he will get better.

You are talking out your ***.
Swoopes has been the only bright spot on this offense.
Then he went and crapped his pants today.
And this is the best defense Baylor has had in years.
I really felt if we kept Baylor under 30 we stood a good chance to win.
But mistakes by players and coaches alike blew it on offense.
Swoopes picked a bad day to quit playing well.
Ash wins this game but he aint here.
Still a lot of ball to play.

What you are seeing is what a typical 2A QB looks like. We got lucky once with Colt, but Colt had the benefit of being a coach's son and was taught very well. QB recruiting at UT has sucked for many years. I watched J. Heard play at Guyer since he was a Sophomore and knocked our HS out of the playoffs. That guy is the real deal and should be given a chance at this point. This season is lost and we will probably only win 1 more game. Give the kid a chance.

Really Moondog? I'm talking out of my ***? What makes you think this Baylor D is the best they've had? They do only have 4 starters returning, that's a fact. I guess them holding powerhouses Buffalo and Iowas State to 21 and 28 points means they are great? What an assclown! Read a little bud, you might learn something and quit looking like such a douche.

Really? What totally low expectations you must have had.

He has zero identity. He is a blank. Worst of all everyone can just say he is "a nice guy". Which I think he really is. I feel sorry for him.

I want a qb I can get pissed at because I know he can do better. I can't get pissed at Swoopes...

What's really sad is we are going to have gone through a full 4 years of Jaxon Shipley on campus and none of us will ever have more than a guess as to how good of a player he was.

Iguess the decision was made to take our lumps with Swoopes this year and save Heard. Might as well stick with it now. If Heard looked like the Messiah, I'm sure he would have been playing before Baylor

Mack burned Swoopes red shirt late last year for no apparent reason.

""He seems to be getting worse each game."
    QB rating first three games.
    BYU...17.8
    UCLA...57.3
    Kansas...56.9

To say he has gotten worse every game is false.
You are creating your own narrative and reality here.
Read a little and you won't look like you're talking out your ***.

"Really? What totally low expectations you must have had. "

What I'm saying is after the last three games, the only thing positive to talk about at the presser was the play of Swoopes.
He was extremely accurate (except deep when allowed) and played well for his first starts.
Has nothing to do with my expectations.

...a buddy of mine hit the SWOOPES nail on the head....

"he is not a quarterback, he's from a tiny school that went 2-9 his Senior year.....

in tiny schools, the best athlete plays QB.....that is SWOOPES.....he is a good athlete...

He is NOT a DIVISION I quarterback.....

Bless the kid, I'm sure he's doing everything with what God gave him and would have loved to hit ever guy in stride for another TD....

I hate to say it but Swoopes reminds me of........ Garrett Gilbert. Both were big strong guys with strong arms and accuracy problems. Both could run a little, but not enough to be really dangerous.

He's a raw QB and everyone knew it going in. Everyone was on board with letting him grow and suffering through it right up until the point where there's actually "suffering" involved, and so now all bets are off.

What we saw in the first few weeks was the "low hanging fruit" growth - learning the offense, getting comfortable with the basics, gaining confidence, etc... But now it gets hard - playing under pressure, multiple reads, making tougher throws, having more in-game savvy - you know, the things that take time to develop. He's five games into his career and we already know he can't develop those things?

I'm not saying he's the answer - frankly, I have my doubts. But moving in to Plan B before the season is half over seems to make zero sense, especially if no one in the program seems to think Plan B is functional at this level yet.

    Real Big Fan,
Could you? Could you hit a receiver in stride? And don't pull a fast one on me and say yes based upon your expert Madden skills.
Sure you can say, well I am not the QB at UT...and to that I would reply..."You are correct sir. Now go get your shine box."

I couldn't hit the side of a barn (like Swoopes), but the QB on my son's 8th grade junior high team can! I simply don't understand how Swoopes received a scholarship offer in the first place. I'm spoiled because I live in Allen and get to witness amazing HS football every Friday night. Swoopes couldn't carry the jock for some of the HS QBs I have witnessed this year and last year (including QBs from DeSoto, Denton Guyer, Southlake Carroll, Cedar Hill, etc.).

Allen's QB (Kyler Murray) is the best HS football player that I have ever seen. I can say that Jerrod Heard is the second best HS player that I have seen. I just wish other UT fans could get a glimpse of him.

There's something to be said about playing big-time HS football in the state of Texas.

These guys are winners. They know how to will a team to victory. They make others around them believe and play better. These are un-coachable assets. I just don't see these traits in Swoopes.

Swoopes was at the top of his Elite 11 camp coming out of high school and could have played almost anywhere. He chose Texas.
My point is to say he was not a top level QB based upon him not playing at Allen seems shortsighted.

We'll have to agree to disagree about Swoopes. However, I am concerned about our WR recruiting. Not sure how C. Strong spins our current passing game to the recruits. "Well son, we're the worst passing team in the country, so things can only get better! Sign here!"

    Big,
I hear you there. Good news is that two top WR recruits in the 16 class have signed.
I do see your point there, so I am not being sarcastic. I think Swoopes needs time.
Prod is right the SL, Highland Park, Stephenville systems start in Pee
    Wee, we just need time.
The last thing I want to see is Strong and the rest of the team loose heart. This isn't a QB issue, it's a housecleaning and new system issue.
    I think.

Keeping John Burt committed is Job 1. But you've got the promise of Heard's track record along with Zach Gentry's pretty impressive season to show that there's promise to move forward if Swoopes doesn't pan out. There's still a story to tell this year... but it clearly needs to show improvement next year.

Think about this - who was the last big-time WR recruit Texas had? We've actually done pretty well in the past with receivers who weren't always head-of-the-class. I think there are plenty of guys out there we can bring in that will perform - would still be great to sign a few can't-miss guys, obviously.

2 weeks in a row a QB from center fumble on the 1 yard line on first down. How does that happen twice? Are we scared to score on what's suppose to be like sinking a 2 foot putt? 8th grade teams go through a season with bobbled snaps. I just cant get over fumbling on the 1 yard line two weeks in a row. and we don't recover it either time. I felt like that was when we lost momentum and the whole team felt deflated. I supported Swoopes but this game showed he is going backwards. Wide open Shipley in the flat and no pressure on Swoopes and he throws it behind him Swoopes did that all day.
