Following TCU’s 37-33 upset win against Oklahoma last weekend, TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin accused Oklahoma reserve quarterback Baker Mayfield of stealing the Horned Frogs' offensive play calls.
“Old Baker Mayfield was on the sidelines and calling out every freaking signal we had, so shout out to Baker Mayfield and OU for that,” Boykin said after the game, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
"You can know [the call], but the whole question is can you stop it and executing every play," Boykin said. "I guess, I don't know, it's just a shout out to them."
Mayfield played under first-year TCU co-offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie while he was at Texas Tech in 2013.
On Monday, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops took to the airwaves to defend his quarterback.
“He wasn’t on any headphones,” Stoops told SiriusXM College Sports Nation. “He comes to about every game he can come to. He’s been at some other away games. He was at Tulsa. I don’t think he was able to get to West Virginia, but we have all our guys on the sideline, if they notice anything, alert us to it. He gave us preparation through the whole week on everything they were doing. Of course we would ask him, through the week, what are the intricacies of what they do? Why wouldn’t you use him?
“But during the game, he wasn’t on headphones with us. If he noticed something in between series or something, he would let us know. We want all our guys doing that. Let us know, if they notice something. I don’t know why they wouldn’t. … I don’t know what would be wrong with that.”
According to the Oklahoman, coach Gary Patterson also noted during the halftime interview with Fox that Mayfield was passing along signals. Mayfield spent the game standing next to the Sooners’ defensive assistant.
Even if Mayfield was picking up on the Horned Frogs’ offensive signs, it didn’t make a difference in the outcome of the game. TCU still scored more points on the Sooners than any other opponent this season and handed them their first loss of the year.

STILL can't believe Staubach was angry when he was told (many yrs later) of our staff stealing hand signals in that game. Happens in every sport - esp baseball.
