Ty Harrington's parents comes to mind. They were Baylor alums, but supported Ty at UT in every way and were great people. What a horrible thing it was to lose them both to an automobile accident. Ty is battling cancer now and I know everybody wishes him the best and hope he can return to coaching soon! I know others will come to mind later.
PhxHorn is my all-time favorite! He had an appreciation for college football unmatched by any fan. It was he that first greeted me to the site and welcomed discussion of option football without all the usual bias of a team fan. Phx truly appreciated good banter with all fans. Macanudo was a prolific poster that was one of the happiest posters on the internet and didn't deserve his circumstance. I regret never meeting him face to face, even when his wife was stationed at Ft. Lewis. Overall, I miss to depth of knowledge of guys like ScipioTex (Seth) and others but it's cool to see those guys move on to being recognizable names. Though he never posted here, I'll fondly remember being a blogger with FauxPelini before he became a celebrity. Anyone know what happened to TPE (ThePeoplesElbow)? Though I was the target of a few of his rants, I still enjoyed reading his insights.
Seattle - I lurked and started posting on HF in Nov. or Dec. 2001. Like you, PhxHorn and KCHorn were the only two posters that I remembered that greeted me - I was surprised but pleased. I also remember Loree and Mihm Rules. Too many great and former posters to list here, but I had a lot of favorites that were knowledgeable and many that were fun. For me, off the top of my head, of the serious ones, Scipio was in the top 5 along with PhxHorn, JC Denton, SRR50 and HPSlugga. The general / funny ones were the The Peoples Elbow (TPE), Gardere Owns ou (GOO), Dances with Possums (DWP), Macanudo and OF COURSE: the one and only SpiderAg.
tpe: I know that he was getting or got his Masters in Kin/Sports Med. He was studying for or got into Med School and probably didn't have time for this site. This is what I remember from a pm or two. He was tall in real life and shared a name with Too Tall from the Cowboys. That is all I recall.
But I thought TPE was a composite, a fictional creation of various posters here who appeared to have superhuman posting abilities (all day and night, apparently). No one could post that much and make the grades necessary for med school, could they?
This is a great thread. A chance for us to remember those no longer here. PhxHorn will always be a favorite of mine as will mihmrules.
FattyFatFat, Kansas State fan, posted here a while back, alternating between Spider-esque self-deprecation and ludicrous amounts of pro-KSU trash talk. RIP The Link
WildBill I remember him as an incredibly brave man who faced his coming demise with grace and dignity.
FLASH NEWS BULLETIN!!! The poster formerly known as GOO is alive and well... posting with a new handle. Welcome back stranger, we have missed you... hope you will join us more in 2015. In the meantime, Merry Christmas!!!
Before closing down, another toast to those who were a part of the site that we will always miss: my parents Jose DKR Phoenix Horn Cole P (CP44) Mic Hawk mihm rules snoop dogg Macanudo's wife (never met her, but honor their relationship and contributions) Loree Hog Eye Neil Derton others that I'll add as I remember them in the next few days......
