Same for me as Syracuse Horn. I signed on initially when I lived in Seattle back in 2003. Moved to Chicago in 2004 and still here. Great way, like Syracuse said, to feel connected to Texas and the Horns.
Thanks for providing the forums to read and post. They will be missed. Austin 360 board -> Hornfans -> Parts unknown.
Thanks all- For all your hard work over the years improving this site, understanding, concern, knowledgeable and thoughtful management, Your tolerance of opinions outside your own, orderly and fair moderating, understanding and nice PM's from LHG, Let me just say thank you, from all the longhorn faithful.
HornFans was my first experience with an Internet blog somewhere around 1998. I really enjoyed the site. I guess I drifted away after losing faith in mackdaddy a few years earlier than others but always enjoyed the occasional check-in except for the taps guy. Many thanks for the good times, food and drink during the game day tailgate days. Best wishes for you and Katy in life and future endeavors. Hook 'Em!
havent posted on this site in maybe 5-6 years. heard it was closing and thought would come see. Have very strong feelings as to why this place fell from what it once was. since its at its end just saying a goodbye
I guess this is my last post on this site. I had a great time here. Lots of laughs. A National Championship. I even had a Classic thread. Thanks.
I'm really sorry to see this site close. It has been the first Longhorn internet site I've checked for years now. Good luck to Robert and Katy. See you at baseball.
This does not sit well with me at all! Like others have mentioned, I rarely post, but have been coming to the site frequently since about 2000 or 2001. The boards have been especially helpful since I moved overseas a couple of years ago and am relegated to watching powerhouse Wofford (tee hee!) take on East Carolina at 3 am. Thank you for the years of thankless work keeping this site going, especially after, well, any loss. I'm sad, but completely understand that you can get to a point where you're done. I'm just thankful that you kept it going this long. Thank you! I'm not sure where I'll go to get my Horns commentary. I guess I'll just spend my time throwing Lil' Debbies at Coach Fran while wearing my orange cape, hoping no one steals my toaster.
One of those "been forever since I posted - just here for the goodbye" kinda guys. All I will add is that introspection can be a very powerful thing.
A few of us expatriates on Shaggybevo are actually sad to see this site shut down, since it was our first good experience with an internet community of Longhorn fans. But as others have mentioned, thin-skinned overmoderation, poor site maintenance, and new alternatives in the marketplace led to this. Thanks for the memories.
This will be a sad void in my basketball life---irreplaceable, really. I guess I'm naive. I never realized there was a lot of fighting and questioning of integrity. Maybe you deleted the worst of that. Anyway, thank you very very much for being a regular part of my life for a long time. You will really be missed.
Hats off to the Shaggy posters coming here to give a sincere goodbye I even respect those who posted negative comments about the site, but done only as honest true feelings. Hornfans has a couple of D-bags already, so not really impressed with those coming here to do the same. I'm still holding out hope that Hornfans survives, and maybe some of you can make peace with this site and come back and fight for its survival. After all, we are Longhorn fans at the end of the day But if not, peace to everyone and heres to winning another championship soon
I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.
Macanudo with the gift of prophecy. The complainers are amusing. I and plenty of others have posted a large volume of critical stuff over the years with no problem. It's not what your opinion is, it's how you say it. If things were really as bad as you said, guys like hpslugga would have been perma-banned long ago since at least 50% of his posts were long lambastes of Greg Davis, and his farewell post was similarly harsh on Charlie Strong and Shawn Watson. There's a time and place for expletives, there's a time and place for dick jokes - all in moderation (no pun intended) - when those plus sexist remarks and insults of other posters comprise literally the majority of posts, it doesn't speak highly of anyone, even the good apples.
I missed the exodus, or just didn't really pay attention to it, but have read a few things written about it. Not sure what really happened, but obviously some people experienced a lot of serious hurt feelings. Oh well, I guess I never really expected too much from messages boards to be so emotional and angry with someone. I think Hornfans is cool, but understand if you found a better board that suits you. Personally, I would be happy about that instead of going on a silly rant about your ex-board. But that's just me
I agree with you, LC. To take the time to come back on here to post some of the things I've seen in the last few days doesn't leave any doubt why some of them may have been suspended/banned.
