was here at the very beginning. was a great source of "home" while living in NYC, and when 9/11 happened provided a lot of comfort. met some really cool folks in real life via this site, too. bye, hornfans!
I met wheeler in 1998 in aimes Iowa and started posting here because of him. Posted here for 12 years I guess and tried to hang on for the longest time even after quality poster after quality poster left. The reason was purely nostalgia. For a while this board was the best thing that ever lived. Read thru my "warnings" just now (was never banned) and just shake my head at how absurd and inane the majority of them were for. Congrats on having the best website I've ever seen before or since for about three or four years. Shame on you for ruining it for no good reason.
It's about time. No point keeping this place alive. When you've got one ad for months and have front page topics spanning back years, then the site needs to be put down. I was around 15 when I joined just to search for a rival fanbase to shoot nonsense. Ended up liking the topics, wit, and humor more than I expected. Then the mods and owners decided to grow an iron fist, invoke North Korea type of death-grip on the flow of information, and run 99 percent of the quality posters somewhere else. Fast forward a few years later to today and I read this announcement. HornFans is dead. An inevitable conclusion. In the spirit of things, the mods will probably comb through this thread and erase all traces of opinions that don't paint this site in a favorable light.
Came here almost 15 years ago. This was a great community from 2000-2005, and was a large part in why I ultimately decided to go to UT. In a sense, I grew up on this board - coming back here brings back memories from my childhood I haven't recalled in over a decade. It's a shame what happened here.
Wow!!. This is kind of a shock but not really I guess. Kinda like when an old pet dog finally dies. You know its coming but its still a shock when it happens. This used to be my favorite site. Still would be if it were more active. Shaggy is an embarrassment. Right now I don't have a favorite website anymore. I just go to the other UT websites to obtain new information. They wouldn't be so bad except for all the senseless bitching, griping and personal attacks that are so rampant. Horn Fans was, and I guess still is, the most civil UT site, at least in my opinion. I will miss it. texas
Posted here a lot in the early aughts. Never banned. Warned a few times. Over moderation killed this board and ran off all the quality posters.
i'll take freedom of speech over false civility anyday. i joined in 1999 when i went to school in RI and needed a connection to Austin; in rode HF to save the day. for that, thank you. But this site has been an embarrassment the last few years and in its treatment of its best posters. surprised i never got banned, i'm a jerk too, guess i was never that important. Anyway, thanks for the memories but can't say I'll miss what this place has become. See ya on the other side.
Thanks for hosting our community for so many years. Nice to see so many folks checking in to say goodbye. I don't know a single poster personally, but certainly recall their contributions and insights - some very knowledgeable and thoughtful people whose postings I will miss. This site has been one of the best for Texas sports news, particularly the "minor" sports. There is no alternative site. It will be tough to keep in focus without periodic visits from Bill in Sinton and all the others, including the friendly Aggie Proposition Joe. Adios.
All I can say is that I am uphauled by this news. Been visiting Hornfans since 2000 or 2001 and it always been my favorite message board. I am always impressed with the discussions, especially in the West Mall, and the discussion never turns into a full on pissing contest. Everyone speaks their mind without losing it, or at least name calling, and that will be sorely missed.
RIP Hornfans. this is my 18,387th post. probably the first one in years. anybody have the most recent tallies on the most prolific posters in HF history? i'd like to see where i stand now.
Was such a great place and I wasted way too much time here. Thanks for everything. Bob in Houston -- thank you for only warning me and not banning me when I called Yao Ming a 7'6" vagina about a decade ago. You're the best. Also, since this place is going away, is it okay to post about sex now?
Thank you for the time and trouble you've invested over the years. This forum helped me relax a little and have some perspective when forming opinions about college sports, and football in particular. I truly hope you enjoy the time you will no longer be investing in this site.
I'm glad I discovered people here many years ago that I now consider to be great friends. And am thankful that I still converse with them frequently on other forums. This place ended up being similar to an Arkie State or SDSU coaching job: a springboard to bigger & better things. Peace, love, Hook 'em. And "Corso is a Penis."
