Our Thanksgiving game has more meaning

I remember at the beginning of the football season (Or even earlier than that), the aggie faithful was touting that they had found a better replacement for us for their Thanksgiving game.

They claimed that while our game was going to be insignificant against TCU, theirs was going to be a marque match-up between two ranked teams vying for the SEC West title.

My how things have changed. A&M vs LSU will now be an insignificant game with minimal national coverage, while the Texas/TCU game has truly national implications.

I know this may not always be the case, but I love that they have to eat crow this year at least.

Agree the LSU-aggie game will be insignificant but it will receive plenty of national exposure. It will be interesting to see the overnight ratings. Because TCU has such a limited national appeal, I'm betting the LSU-aggie game easily trumps the Texas-TCU game in terms of viewership. I know this has never been suggested before on this board or any other, but this game needs to move. Without a marque matchup, it's not the same. And the stands will be at least 1/4th empty. Blah blah blah.

How do prepare all that left over crow from Thanksgiving? Crow for Thanksgiving is bad enough. You would really have to use a lot of sage in that dressing and spoon on the gravy.

What's for desert with that? I would think "four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie," would go well with crow.

Isn't this a dainty dish to set before the Aggies?

Our game is on Fox Sports Network. Channel 219 on DirecTV. Not sure how widely that is covered on most cable packages.

    A&M game gets base ESPN.

    Thur lineup... Times Central

Phil at Dallas, 3:30 on Fox... ends about 6:45 to 7:00

TCU at Texas, 6:30 Fox Sports 1
    LSU at collie, 6:30, ESPN

    Seattle at SF, 7:30, NBC

At 7:30 everyone will be watching NBC. The best reason for moving our game from Thanksgiving night is the NFL, not aggy.

Yes Yes I forgot the E in marqueE.

Hmmm, Martin brings up a good point regarding the NFL.

The biggest thing that bothers me about this game is that it's on FS1. I just hope they bring in their 1st team announcers as some of the others we've had to endure have royally suckled.

It's not just the announcers - the entire production is subpar.

What Stat said. Some of their camera shots - very highup at midfield (like sitting in the top row of the upper deck at DKR) and field level from the back of the end zone - make me want to set my hair on fire.

The ratings will be higher in Texas for our game vs. tcu than ag v lsu.

The dfw market where tcu is will be focused on the horns/frogs. and most of Texas will be watching the horns play instead of the ags.

Most football fans will not even know that UT is playing this year.
LSU vs A&M will get many more viewers on ESPN. Patterson talks about the UT "brand" all the time. He should work to get our team back on ESPN vs A&M to help the restore the brand.

I disagree, most of the college football world will be watching our game especially if the game is close. TCU is a playoff contender and if the game is tied or close at the start of the fourth quarter, most of the country will be watching.
No one cares about two mediocre SEC teams that are out of the playoffs and fighting for the Liberty Bowl. Pro fans will watch the pro game. College fans will be watching the two college games, switching back in forth between the two games. When LSU starts pounding aggie and Texas is hanging with TCU, the switching stops. What game are the Ohio State (BIG 10) fans going to watch?

Remember in 2004 when all the Texas fans were watching California at Southern Mississippi because it affected our Rose Bowl chances?
More people are going to watch the playoff contender that has a chance to be upset than two unranked, bottom feeders in their division.

Ohio State, Oregon, Florida State, Baylor, Mississippi State Alabama, etc fans are going to care far far more about the TCU game than two unranked teams playing for nothing. Yes this is a meaningful game. It is a shame we are not the playoff contender.

When was A&M EVER a top 5 opponent? Like once or twice maybe ever.

The last time we played a top 10 a&m team was 1998. In 2008, they were such a bad opponent we lost strength of schedule and BCS computer points after playing them. This year they are unranked. TCU is #5.

We will not restore our brand by playing a team 90 miles to the east.

We restore our brand by playing, and beating, OU, UCLA, ND, USC, and Michigan.

Charles Davis is a very good announcer and he is announcing the Texas-TCU game tomorrow.
