That was a pretty cute tweet, for lack of a better word. He seems like a true gentleman. Any of those schools will be lucky to have you
Getting this kid would be huge. Charlie even without him is putting up a really good recruiting class.
I know I sound like captain obvious here but watching this kid/man in person sends me to my car shaking my head. He plays faster and appears even bigger in person. He's long, fast and goes at the edges with utter abandon. He could be very special.
I'm assuming he will be at b-ball vs Kentucky. Can't hurt our chances if we rock the place and beat them.
All his Mesquite buds have pics of him wearing Aggie gear on Instagram and Twitter. Constantly. It's kind of like Martellus Bennett... not as flashy, but he led Texas on for a long time, all the while sporting A&M hats and shirts.
I'm just hoping Charlie can emphasize what direction our Def is going and what direction the ags are going. If I was a stud Def player, I'd want to play for a Charlie Strong Def.
Malik would shine in a 3-4-5 defense. Then he would shine in any defense. He is too good of a player to give up on. Stay on till he signs somewhere.
That's ODD !! It appeared to me that the Aggies were playing 6-man football. In that game there are all kinds of lanes for running backs.
Who was his primary contact or recruiter? Did that recruiter just take a job at Kansas? I don't follow Ag recruiting so I ask honestly. If he was his guy I wonder how if any it affects a decision. I don't like it when a kid goes to a school just because of a Coach but you never know.
The Longhorns' feeble offense might have something to do with a recruit's perception of the opportunity to win a conference title at UT. Any recruit who watched the TCU debacle witnessed the futility of a solid defense coupled with an inept offense. That said, those same recruits seem able to ignore an inept defense when considering a school.
As experienced adults, having watched football, recruiting, and games for our whole life, versus a 17 year old young man, we look at school situations and have a much better perception of what we "believe" would be in a recruit's best interest. Of course, that young man's usually does not see it our way. Some times is works out for them, and some times it does not. Hopefully, the kid will have enough family support to logically think thru what is really in their best interests and decide likewise. However when the potential to have $$$$ coming for your way for your choice, this outweighs some of the logic.
I believe we con"vance" him to come over to the good side between now and Feb. I just got a good feeling on this. He is suppose to announce this up coming week (I believe the 19th). So if it doesn't go our way that day I still think we could get him if we don't give up.
Who knows what buttons needs to be pushed to persuade marque recruits like Jefferson to come "home." For those of us who grew up following Texas, it's difficult to understand or perceive any advantage TAM could offer, aside from swag and hype. When compared to Texas, their program would seem to be deficient by almost any measure. If Jefferson is a grounded young man with an objective perspective, we should have a good shot. If he wants to be coached by a man with impeccable integrity; a man with a terrific track of developing talent and placing players successfully at the next level; a man who demands decipline and performance on the field and in the classroom, then Jerferson's decision should be simple. If I was a parent and I wanted a role model for my superstar son likely to face life changing decisions on and off the field, this would be a no-brainer. There may be few leaders of men coaching college football today that are on the same level as Charlie Strong. We shall see.
Here is another perspective regarding his young man. Let's surmise what we know outside of his football prowess. From what we have heard, he is a good upstanding citizen type who makes good grades, treats others respectfully and stays out of trouble. We also know his folks are very involved and are not shy about expressing their opinion about what decisions he should make. We know they are very involved in the recruiting process. We know the folks really like the very strong discipline that CS demands from his players and how involved the coaches are in the lives of the players. We also know Malik was very impressed with LSU's academics because he was blown away by their 24/7 athlete support facility and not overly impressed with McCombs. We know Malik really likes Sumlin and all that he is (FOS, swag copters, etc.) We know Tamu has a bunch of partiers and kids getting in trouble from it. We know Sumlin isn't exactly cleaning house over there, either. Not saying it is this way, but sounds a lot like a kid who has been managed very tightly at home and is now looking at going to college as a chance to escape the prison bars and do some partying. Momma loves CS because she she's his system as an extension of hers. Sumlin looks like the cool guy who will look the other way when problems crop up. As well, UT expects you to be smart, study and make good grades. They provide athletes some academic support, but support it is only. They are not going to do the work for the athlete or place professors in departments that will pass a student just because he is an elite athlete. Maybe the kid is simply intimidated by the academic rep of UT and he knows he wouldn't be able to screw around and have as much fun if he went there. that's not our kind of guy, but there are a lot of them out there. And of course, he wouldnt be able to admit any of that to the folks because they would crucify him and probably send him to Army or Navy because he was going off the deep end.
