8 STRONG years of sobriety

Well, another year brings me to one of my favorite traditions. I made it. For those of you that do not know, I showed up here on December 6, 2006. Broken, addicted, alcoholic, and hopelessly lost. What I found was acceptance, love, tolerance, and...hope. I found friendship. Advice. Humanity.
I managed to beat the odds, and today I sit, 8 years recovered from alcoholism and drug addiction. In that time period, I have adopted a kiddo, become a licensed pastor, and founded Sober by Grace Ministries, a community of recovery homes that work with the addicted, the alcoholic, and sometimes, the trafficked.
I don't know how many read this, but I do know this: someone will read it, that desperately needs to know, is this as good good as it gets? Am I in a state of hopeless unrecoverable misery? The good news is, there is a solution. We do recover.

And, sometimes, we get our family back. Our life. The whole country song. This year, I can say that my wife and I have celebrated 19 years of marriage, and this time....we did it as not only husband and wife, but as best friends.I have a wonderful relationship with my 14 year old daughter. And, I have picked up a volunteer slot assisting with our church youth group. I get to teach once a month, and every week I have the honor of running a jr. high boys small group.

I will for the rest of my life recall that day I drug myself in here. The support is appreciated every day, in ways you can not imagine. And I have paid it back, 10 fold. I'm eternally grateful to Hornfans.com.

We sit with a max capacity of 16 male residents, and 8 female residents (in different houses....) and they all get loved on, the way I was loved on.
Thank you. From the bottom of m heart, thank you. If you or a loved one is struggling, please contact me at 817.606.9580. I will do whatever I can to lend an ear, and if desired, give some advice. Thank you, Merry Christmas, and God Bless you all.

    Much Love,

Every year I look forward to revisiting this. It's the time of year when so many of us see nothing but the bank account balance, people we lost, jobs we never got a chance to interview for, etc. We need to keep it in perspective and appreciate the baby steps.

Great to read you message! I certainly remember hearing from you over the years and celebrate your success with you. I had a son go through the same family wrecking situation only to hit bottom and, to everyone's surprise, fully recover to now become a successful businessman u and caring husband and father.
Miracles do occur! Congrats to you and best wishes - Merry Christmas and Happy 2015!!!
