Perhaps but just think if it had been a bomb ( does it look anything like a bomb/timer?, to the average eye?)and had gone off and had killed kids?
The engineering teacher knew it was harmless. If I were a teacher ,who like most did know not it was harmless. with all the crap going on in classrooms today I might have over reacted to ensure the safety of my students>
That said handcuffing the kid was too much IMO.
Still I do not blame the teacher at all.

I dont have time to post a pic. It looks much more like what the average person would think is a bomb than a clock. Probably should have let it go when they found out what it was, but def not something to bring to school these days.

It wasn't stupid to investigate. After it was concluded the "clock" posed no threat, it was time for the adults in the room to show adult judgement and decsion-making.

And to the OP, all the "dimwit teachers" did was ask for a briefcase full of wires, circuit boards, and a large timer to be investigated. If you have an issue, it should be with the cops that cuffed him and charged him with a crime.

The student was interviewed and he said he'd made modifications to it so it wouldn't look suspicious. meaning he understood it could look suspicious. I can see to someone so brilliant as he is he probably did make it look harmless, to people who understood what they were seeing.
The engineering teacher who DID know what it was should have held it for the student for the day instead of telling him to hide it and not show it.

This is a bright kid. I hope this does not keep him from continuing to stretch his mind. And I hope all those enraged muslims crying islamophobia do not influence him.

If I saw this in school, I would be suspicious. I wonder is secret service or TSA will let him bring it.

Exactly. Would he have been allowed to get on a plane with that or enter any federal building?
The police did over react but maybe that is protocol? Just like they had to suspend that 6 yo who ate the pop tart in a silly gun shape? Or the 8 yo kid suspended for a 2" toy gun or the 5 y o with the gun made out of Legos. etc etc.
Wasn't there an episode several years ago casio watches made into bombs?

But I hope the kid and his parents take a deep breath and not listen to the CAIR people.

how much c4 would fit behind that red panel that could be a timer, not a clock? how much c4 would blow up a room full of students in a class or cafeteria? would it fit in there where you couldn't see it?

I don't know as I am a teacher and not a (potential) bomb expert as some on the internet expect us to be. I guess they should add that to the list of august trainings next year.

You could put enough c4 in there to blow up the entire school.
We know that was not the intent of this kid
but did the teacher/ principal know that at the time?
Sorry I err on the side of the safety of the kids.

the handcuffs? Maybe there is some protocol but it seems excessive. Then so does removing a 6 y o from class and suspending him for eating a pop tart.

profiling may not be fair but it is needed and happens throughout the world. all visitors to schools, even parents, have to check in to the office and have their government ID scanned to get a badge to enter the building. that is the way it is these days.

you aren't allowed to bring your kid into the school in the morning at our neighborhood elementary. the good people are suffering all over, especially in the schools and airports of course, because of the threat of lone wolf bad guys.

zeal is the word these days.

Handcuffing the student after making a determination is poker judgement. But, understand the extenuating circumstances. The father of this kid is an outspoken advocate of the establishment of a sharia court in Irving. The looks of the device do not scream "alarm clock." The student is Muslim and their track record is evident. Yes, I actually said that. All of these factored together are enough to raise suspicion. Oh, by the way, it's the "progressives" who have nurtured the anti-gun culture. They are the one who go berserk over images of guns and students wearing NRA shirts. So, here we have a student with something that could easily be construed as a bomb and the same "progressives" scream BS. Go figure.

The student in question is a Muslim ( minority) and that automatically makes the teachers and everyone else involved "dimwits." It perfectly fits the political narrative of the left.

As more comes out it brings up more questions.
I don't think there is anyone who looked at that briefcase and said,"wow what a cool clock."
Where does the time show up? How would anyone know it is a clock.
Why if reports are true after the engineering teacher told the kid to keep it hidden did he plug it in in another class.
Right away his father started shouting Islamophobia and got CAIR involved
Plus now they are consulting lawyers to sue.
Did any of the other families whose students were also yanked out of classrooms for pop tarts Legos 2"tpys
Or just making a gun sorta shape with your hand.
I would hope this kid is sincere and legitimate
And not a pawn of his father to test what the uproar can be created

ISIS has changed the world for people of the Islamic faith. It is too bad but expect to be profiled if you are Islamic and doing anything that could be deemed questionable.

Every other person is being profiled as human by the schools with the various layers of security in place.

I totally agree with Larry. My initial reaction was to say the school and teachers overracted, but once i saw the photo of the "clock," I completely changed my take on this story.

Maybe it's a clock, but it sure as hell didn't look like one. If you're a teacher or a principal, what are you supposed to do? It looks like a bomb (or at least what most people would think a bomb would look like). The only responsible thing to do is call the cops and yes, detain the kid. And if you're the cop, what are you supposed to do? You have to investigate the matter, and that could mean taking the kid into custody.

No, it wasn't a bomb, but the teacher doesn't know that, and what if she had presumed it wasn't to avoid offending the kid and presumed wrong? It would have cost her and likely many others their lives. This is a no-brainer. She did the right thing.

And spare me the liberal ******** on this story. The only reason the Left gave two squirts of piss about this is that it inovlved a Muslim and therefore a chance to bellyache about discrimination. If it had been a white kid who owned a Confederate flag or had a Bible in his locker, they would have been all for arresting the kid. The kid's ethnicity and religion should have nothing to do with this story.

    Just some thoughts:

    1) Kids of all races get sent home/suspended for bringing completely harmless (far less harmless looking than his clock) things to school. Butter knifes/water guns, etc. I remember one kid in my junior high class got sent home because he made a paperclip blowgun out of note cards or something.

    2) I was an intelligence officer and a Level 2 Anti-Terrorism Force Protection officer in the Navy. Suitcase bombs keep us up at night. Suitcase IEDs have been use to kill hundreds of people in Iraq/Israel/Northern Ireland. Suitcase bombs, which this kids' looks like could have been pulled out of one my ATFP briefings, are not Hollywood make-believe. This kid brought a hard shell suitcase full of electronics and a functioning timer. See something say something.

If anyone brought that machine near the President, they would be lucky to just get arrested and not be shot by the Secret Service. DEFCON level would probably automatically go up 2 notches.

    3) Twitter/Social Media is causing me to lose hope in the young people of this country. Making a meme with this kid in his glasses (WITHOUT HIS CLOCK) next to kids NOT IN SCHOOL with rifles saying something is wrong with this country makes me sick to my stomach.

My God, Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley must be terrorists.

What upsets me isn't whether someone is a gun person or not. It's the stupidity of the argument. I would say the intellectual dishonesty of the argument, but it's social media - they have no intellect.

This is how the social media driven culture wars goes. This is how we get divided. And who's leading the charge? Obama's twitter, "Cool clock Ahmed. Want to bring it by the White House? We need young people like you intrested in science." So people/Texans like us are mocked as racist/anti-science and gun nuts by social media.

Since Obama wants to meet with this kid and see his clock, I wonder if he'll let the kid and the clock enter the room with him without having the secret service meet with the kid and examine the clock.

To borrow one of his lines.

If I had a son, he'd look a lot like Ahmed. And I would kick his *** for bringing that to school.

I'm not surprised by Obama's actions at all on this. He has been a terrible president when it comes to morale in education. His administration, and holder specifically, have done little other than accusing schools of being racist. It was all "just stuff on the news" until my former school had a DOJ investigation going on about our treatment of minority students.

It has crossed my mind that his father may have been involved. Who knows. It's funny (sad) to see how the MSM is treating this. This case dovetails perfectly with their political narrative of profiling and victimization.

We will never know but I hope for the kid's sake his father didn't use him. The kid seems like a genuine ( semi clueless) 14 yo. He understood enough to wonder if his " clock" would look suspicious but if he is genuine still seemed amazed when his clock was thought suspicious.
People forget there was a student shooting incident at another Irving school not long ago.

On a side note, oh yea sure 'Obama knew that case was a clock. and sure the kid could have just waltzed onto a plane or into any gov't building with it.

At least it wasn't a coffee cup

To be fair, this kid was profiled. Why would he be showing the goods to the teachers if the intent was to blow up the school. This was poorly handled by all parties involved. An English teacher reported him without using common sense.

There is an active and well funded anti-Islam industry that promotes Islamophobia and Irving's idiot mayor and many others are a victim of it. Anybody bitching about sharia law creeping into the courts is dimwit of the highest degree - and there appear to be many in Texas who have bought into this garbage.

This kid is very well spoken - he told them numerous times it was a clock.

How many non-whites have been involved in School shootings or movie theater shootings across the United States?

No this kid was NOT profiled. Well unless you think all of the kids who have been suspended for pastry guns, finger guns. lego guns, toy guns NRA T shirt etc etc were also profiled.

there is nothing about sharia in this incident.

I'm not even going to get into the sharia law stuff, but the teacher did the right thing by reporting something suspicious. He didn't walk up and show it to her. It beeped in class then she asked to see it. She clearly didn't know what the F it was (I mean, look at the pic) and reported it to be investigated. She didn't scream "OMG!!! a brown kid with a BOMB!!!!". She acted rationally, given the circumstances, and is now being painted as a racist for simply doing her job. This country has become sad and pathetic in so many ways.

What does his father have to do with this situation? What is your source that he has asked for a Sharia court.

Define Sharia? Explain what a Sharia court is. Does one exist in the US or Texas? Who is the judge of any such court within the United States? How does such a court operate?

You posted you think this kid was profiled. Do you think any of the many many non brown kids who have been jerked out of class and suspended for things like saying Bang> or a 6 y o eating a poptart in the supposed shape of a gun. or the kid who said"gun" on a school bus etc etc etc etc,
    were they also profiled?
