Stop the Gilbert train and go with Franklin, Charlie

That's my advice, Charlie. You can still back out of it, if it isn't finalized. We have good lawyers at Texas.

Get someone whose attack and offense you can put on the programs and the commercials this year, and who can help you get to 7 or 8 wins or more next season.

I'm sure he'll pay a lot of attention to and give serious thought to your dumbass suggestion.

Nothing like a trolling newbie trying to stir it up to get some attention.

    :rolleyes1:

I honestly don't know whether aak09's idea is dumb. But I'm trying to imagine who would have enough clout to actually get a serious listen to this suggestion? Who has more influence than Red McCombs and Joe Jamail?

Franklin is an excellent teacher and installer of his offensive vision. Gilbert may be a younger version of the same, but is also a former Texas high school football coach. Given the tremendous need to bring in top flight recruiting classes, right now, I'm glad we went with Gilbert.
And what kind of idiots would we look like if we invested several days in courting Cumbie, offered Gilbert, then pulled the offer? That stink would reappear every time we tried to recruit a coach. Just hope that Gilbert is as good as advertised, because he is your new OC.

As I've posted before, some of our posters have a very serious break with reality and need to come to grips with that.

If this is a serious post (which by its very nature, I have a hard time believing) then it is the most ill advised suggestion I have seen on this board in years. Were the University and its football coaches, and AD, to pursue this path, Texas would indeed be seen, and rightly so, as a chicken with its head cut off, staggering aimlessly through the barnyard until it drops lifelessly to the cold manure laced earth.

aakO9, you sir have reached a pinnacle of absurdity rarely seen on a football board, and that is no mean feat.

I suspect the OP is the kind of person that gets ready to drive to the store, thinks about everything that could go wrong there or on the way, then turns around and runs back into the house to hide. Either that or they're a troll... or both.

As far as I can tell, no. Someone should probably drag him out of his pillow fort and ask him directly, though.

I don't know who he is. As far as sensible posts: Who can disagree that it's a good idea to move Malik Jefferson out of a starting linebacker position and replace him with either Cameron Townsend or PJ Locke? Or install Jake McMillion as a starting Defensive End? Or start Jake Oliver at wideout and regularly target him?

I can argue it's an insane idea to bench a healthy Malik Jefferson.

Have we not witnessed his improvement in 12 games? He was a ball-hound who needed schooling on pass coverage and has done that. No one is faster to the runner, not even Duke Thomas in run support. That means there is no one with a better blitz rush, too.

Biggest liability Malik has is his size. Reckon that might increase as he gets older?

Shaw, even our QB back in '06 bulked-up by '09.

IDK who his AAK-AAK guy is either ... but he's prolifically out there with most of what I've read.

Didn't say bench him. I said have him split time with Roberson at Defensive End, and let's see which one is better (or play both of them throughout the game with McMillon on the other side, either way).

We must not have been watching the same games. That hole 5 to 15 yards in the center of the field in the zone defenses more often than not was Jefferson's responsibility. Hopefully he will get the coaching he needs to bring pass defense up to the same high level as his run play.

Oh, well sure, that makes a lot more sense. Take your second leading tackler, move him to a down lineman position to negate some of his speed and range and give an OT a better chance to lock onto him, have him split time with a guy who's relatively unproven, and free up LB room for one of the freshman LB who DIDN'T win freshman all-America honors.

    Point taken.

No disrespect intended for McMillion and Oliver. McMillion has been ready when called upon. I think he's more needed inside than at DE. Oliver has made contributions on special teams. He's a big strong wideout who may well work his way into the rotation.

He was actually in the Baylor game in our short yardage defense - which I'm sure was the reason we won. :D

I'd recommend he coach at Texas A&M. His namesake kicked field goals there. I'd even recommend this thread be moved to TexAgs.

Yeah, you're right, who could possibly question any of those ideas. Except maybe if one or the other was named to the National freshman All American team. Oh wait....

    My turn...

Malik Jefferson to hold on extra pts and FGs
    Kevin Vacarro to DT/NT
Hassan Ridgeway can run back punts and KO
    Trey Holtz to Center

Welcome to the twilight zone. Rod Serling to be the stadium announcer and we're all set.....or doomed!

Yes. That's what I mean. Ball hound in that he gets there in a hurry. Needed coaching/schooling on zone coverage. He's MUCH better againt in the half of BU than ND.
