Austin news saying there's talk of the Raiders moving to the area. The Raiders owner has property in / near NB and is considering a move. Red McCombs is also involved.

    Wow......crazy.......

Between Austin and San Antonio. Likely east of NB between 35 and 130.

Nice story, but Red has no stroke in NFL, and most of the current owners know actions by Jerry Jones over the years has made each of them additional money. Jones owns the South Texas market. McNair has delusions of penetrating that, but it's locked. Neither of them are letting anyone into Texas.

The owners voted loud and clear that Davis ain't one of them. He got voted #3 out of 3 in the vote for LA, which was a very loud message - "You ain't your daddy, we didn't like him anyway, f**k off."

I was listening to a radio interview the last week with a former Gunslinger player (I don't think it was NewWeasel, but might have been).

Funny story about how dicey some of the teams' financial situation was for the USFL. Come payday on a Friday there would be a mad, massive road race from metro San Antonio where the players would pick up their checks at the Gunslingers office, to a bank in a small town a good distance south of SA (might have been Pearsall) where the Gunslingers did their banking bidness.

Seems the Gunslinger's account usually didn't have enough to cover all payroll so the players would rush to get their check to the bank and cash them into currency at the counter so as not be left with a worthless check.

Pretty good 30 for 30 movie on the USFL that talks about that.

It's just talk at this point.

I'd like to see an NFL club there and I suspect that whole Austin / SA area would like to have a team. They probably now have the population & demographics to support / justify a franchise.

However, Jerra Jones will block or undermine any NFL team coming to Texas that would take even a nickle out of his coffers.

Maybe it was from that 30 for 30. And I'm pretty sure now that it was NewWeasel.

Misleading thread title...they would no doubt be the San Antonio Bandido Raiders of New Braunfels.

JJ invested a lot of time/money in winning the loyalties of the SA market. Cowboys spent training camp there in 2002, 03, 07, 09, 10, and 11. They continue to view SA as one of their top 2 choices for future camps, along with Oxnard, CA.

Jones has major pull with fellow owners and the league itself. He was a leading member of owner committees that strongly shaped the league today. Including negotiating the current Collective Bargaining Agreement with NFLPA, and hiring Goodell as NFL commissioner.

Not to mention he's currently the chairman of the NFL Network Committee and Pro Football Hall of Fame Committee. And is a current member of the NFL Broadcasting Committee and Health and Safety Advisory Board.

If Ole Jer calls up fellow owners and Goodell and says "absolutely not"...he'll get the support he needs without question. No way he lets a third Texas team undo his choke hold on the SA market.

Oh good, the middle of nowhere east of I-35 between Austin and San Antonio needs more large sports venues with minimal road support.

Brad, all good points, but Red isn't exactly chopped liver. I think for starters he could buy Jerra two or three times over.

As noted he is a former NFL team owner.

I think he was instrumental in helping save the Saints immediately after Katrina damaged the Superdome. And a couple of years later the Saints won the Superbowl. Powerful chip, there.

And I'd bet my left nut that more than one owner that represent decades and multi-generational old NFL ownership would LOVE to stick it to Jerra and what he's done to the NFL brand.

    Other side of the coin.

A third NFL team in Texas may make more sense than JJ would like to think about. SA + AUS = SATX.

Texas with 2 NFL teams has 27M population and Ohio with 2 NFL teams has 11M population.

The Lions/Browns/Steelers and Bears/Colts/Bengals are much closer proximity than DFW/HOU/SATX would be. NFL Franchise is 75 miles.

    MSA for LA 15M, DFW 7M, HOU 6.5M, SJSF 5M, SATX 4.5M

Moving OAK from the SJSF 5M population with two NFL teams to the SATX 4.5M population would have immediate economic benefits to the 49ers and the Raiders in tix, stadium, arena, etc sales.

The net TV impact would be minor as all games are shown on broadcast channels anyway so it available to anyone to watch the game they choose. For any homes lost from Cowboys or Texans they would be picked up by SATX.

The question is what is good for the league? Moving a team to LA is a no brainer.

Oakland to SATX may be a smart move for the other 30 Owners.

At least the argument is leverage to get two teams into LA.

An NFL team in Central Texas will probably have a negative impact on the Longhorn brand and revenue.

Right. Why build a large sports venue with minimal road support when they can just buy the Circuit of the Americas facility for pennies on the dollar after it goes bankrupt later this year.
