It looks like Robinson is going to USC from this AAS post. Any idea who would work well with Gilbert and the new offense?

Good question. He does have a little experience at being a running back as I recall...

It would be really cool to see Ricky Williams as the running backs coach.

Robinson gets Martin to reconsider his longtime Baylor verbal, reopen his recruiting, and then Robinson takes off. As far as coaching ability, I'm not sure it's any great loss. I just wish he had gotten a firm commitment from Martin before leaving. Kendall probably has him back in fold by now.

May be, I remember one recruit got one and posted a picture I saw. Not sure if it was Kam though.

Thinking about Ricky as the RB Coach, think about the potential effect on recruiting:

    • heisman winner
    • broke Tony Dorsett's all time record for rushing yards
    • NFL Pro Bowl and All-Pro RB
    • NFL Top Rushing Yards (2002 League rushing leader)
    • ...and more
He has experience as a RB coach at Incarnate Word in S.A.

Good thing he's not coming to Texas. He'd have to get a skin graft to cover that hideous looking thing up.

    Easy,

As displayed above, he has a huge Baylor tattoo, but when asked, he stated that the Texas coaches "don't have a problem with it".

According to my friends in Jefferson County, he was ready to flip. In fact, on the last visit by Robinson, Kendall was waiting outside when Robinson left. I hope Robinson at least had the class and dignity to call the young man and tell him he was leaving rather than Kendall breaking the news. Unfortunately, I doubt he did.

When your head coach can't get quality assistants to work for him, you wind up with these kind of people.

I'm pretty sure Texas could care less about the ink but man the guys in the locker room would give him hell about that one.

Coaches leave all the time it's part of the game, if he had the chance to go pro he would leave school early so how can he complain. That's why most say never commit to a coach find the SCHOOL thats best for you.

    Per TFB:
As most of you know by now, coach Tommie Robinson will be leaving the University of Texas and heading back to USC. Last night I spoke to someone I consider as close to an infallible source as they come and was told, “Tommie was encouraged a while back to find something. Wasn’t working out there (at Texas).”

So it sounds like Texas had this in the works all along which would lead one to believe that a replacement has already been decided on.

Will that be announced ASAP or will they wait until Robinson's contract ends on 1/31 (I think it runs thru the end of this month.)

Slowly but surely things are picking up and turning around. Just need to see it in the win column now.

I read some names over on this thread at Horns247. I just hope that Charlie allows Gilbert input because his initial offensive staff hires didn't work out.

Getting Singleton might open up Whaley for us since he committed to Arky a bit ago.

I wonder if now is a good time to hire a good, strong Texas high school coach?

I think Texas needs to look at former Houston HC Tony Levine. Guy has never coached RBs to the best of my knowledge but he built the house Tom Herman is winning with and was apparently an ace special teams coach. Move Traylor to TE/RB and make Levine Special Teams/recruiting coordinator.

Levine may not be much of a HC but he can recruit, knows the Houston area, has lots of high school connections, and can hopefully improve out woeful special teams.

A Willson ex coach at John Tyler might be a good one.
