there is no bad. there is just stuff that should be on the phone that was left off. fortunately, that will change soon. also, several updates were left off so they could make them fully compatible with leopard.
not to hijack your thread, but how is text messaging on the iphone? i figured it might be hard to send a text message on the touchscreen keyboard...
i guess i didn't mean to say "bad" but more along the lines of what its missing. For those that have an iphone, did you have a smart phone previous? I'm in the market to get a smart phone and my sprint contract is up, so i'm looking at the treo 755p and other service providers phones, but the techie nerd in me wants an iphone. How would you guys compare the regular pda phones to the iphone?
If you are coming from a blackberry and used to the instant emails and need that, the iphone is probably not for you. I love the phone and I am still getting used to not having the emails come auto, they come every 15 minutes. The good part is that I can now open many attachments that I could never see on my blackberry, which really helps. I think the phone is really cool and will get better with the updates.
I got to play with my buddies iphone the other day. I have a old sprint/samsung palm pilot phone. Here's what's gotta happen before I buy an iphone. 1 open up the software. I can add about 50,000 programs to my phone. I'd like to do the same on the iphone 2 cut and paste. I can do it on my phone, what a pain in the *** to email someone a url 3 some ssh/putty type program so I can get into my unix servers 4 javascript is fixed in the browser. The pages I use to manage my server don't work on it. As soon as these are done I'm buying one.
many mentioned they wanted to purchase this iphone on the 2nd version. i opted with their advice, to cure many of these glitches or additions.
FOR THOSE WITH THE iPHONE I just found out I can get a huge refund from work for a new phone (any phone) plus free monthly usage, so of course I'm considering the iPhone. I played with one the other day and its allsome!!! However , at work we use PCs, and Outlook for an email client. At home I use a Mac. Will I be able to sync my home computer (mac)to my phone for music/movies/photos and my work computer (pc) for the email and calendar & contacts????? I don't care about checking my personal email on my iPhone, I need to be able to check work email so that work will pay for it. -Does it interact well with outlook, the calendar scheduler (for meetings) and the contacts? -If it's synced to my work computer, will I also be able to sync certain features (entertainment stuff) to my mac at home? thanks!!! (ps. the Mac Nerds at the Mac store didn't know) and the store in Palo Alto has iPhones in stock again.
ghost, you never know when another phone will be released. apple could release a iphone nano within the next 6 months but it wont have **** for features compared to the iphone. unless you need 3g or gps for the iphone, i would just buy the current gen. any glitches that the iphone may have it is just updated through firmware. i doubt there will be any hardware issue, but you never know.long island, i have no answer to your question. i believe microsoft exchange servers can now be setup with mail, but im not sure. i know jobs commented on it about 2 weeks ago, but i cant remember. im not sure if it syncs with outlook either, im not a windows user. edit--- after doing a little research it should sync with outlook just fine. you shouldnt have any problems syncing between two different computers either. from the apple website:
1-they don't work with Exchange servers 2-no cut and paste 3-typing on that virtual keyboard is very difficult compared to my BB 8800 4-no push email. that's a must in my business this thing is neat, but has a long way to go to even equal what the BB does for business users. BTW, I'm typing this on a MacBookPro, which is the single greatest piece of computer hardware I've ever owned.
Thanks for the responses guys, i think i'm just going to sit on it for another month or so before i make a decision.
3g would require a different chipset, so thats not going to happen. the only issue i have with 3g is it is hardly available outside the big cities. meanwhile edge is available almost everywhere. fortunately the edge speeds in austin are pretty fast. also, a phone that is 3g capable doesnt have near the battery life that edge phones have.
the edge network will hardly be obsolete in 1 year. if you have a 3g phone right now you are lucky if you get 3 hours of talk time on it.
It doesn't have anything to do with EDGE, it has to do with what consumers and especially early adopters want that are willing to open up their pocketbooks for the latest and greatest. Without a doubt, the iphone is still a cool new gadget. My Treo 700p would go for 2+ days on one charge, and that used EVDO. I don't know why your phone couldn't last 3 hours with 3G, but perhaps it was a poor implementation.
you mentioned the phone would be obsolete in a year, how does it not have everything to do with edge? the 700p is rated for 4.5 hr battery life, which is surprisingly good (for an evdo phone), but its about half that of the iphone. to each his own but id rather have twice as much battery life and wifi.
Obsolete, as in in no longer current, not as in no longer working. This is what drives the mobile market for most consumers and most definitely other gadget lovers. We just have different preferences. I'd rather use EVDO/3G than hop on other wifi networks at random. I have a nice laptop for that at home and at work.
I wasn't really that interested in an Iphone but I went to AT&T this weekend to check it out and I really want one now. The UPS guy even showed up while in the store with their new supply. It's going on my Christmas list.
so a guy at the sprint store here in corpus told me that they weren't selling insurance for the iphones. any truth to that, cuz if that was the case that would suck
