For confirmation, Texas has 1 scholarship available for 2016? And transfer prospects Cotaro and Jatarie White would qualify for that ship? I've lost track of the open spots.
I am really disappointed we didn't even get a visit from Chatrice White! She would have been a Great addition after sitting out a year. I am with Dr. D that Jatarie White may be damaged but sitting out a year may be the fix to get her healed. I say again we really need a Big girl in the 2017 class.
If a permanent fix required surgery then sitting a transfer year would be a win-win. IIRC, there was some concern during Imani's soph or jr year that she might never be able to play a full season, seems like our medical staff put together a very successful treatment plan.
Since Corsaro has eliminated us I guess it's still up to Jatarie White to see if we use the lone scholarship we have remaining for this year. That confirmation should be coming soon.
Anyone know if White visited Texas? Considering the other two programs under consideration are much closer to home, I would put UT as a prohibitive underdog if she didn't. Also, what about her best fit (position) - C or PF? If PF, I would rather keep the spot open for a 2017.
Nothing has been said regarding Jatarie visiting any of her rumored options (Texas, NC State, and Virginia Tech). But, she had already visited Texas officially the Fall of her senior season (2013). So, she's definitely familiar with many things about Texas; but, we do now have 2 new assistant coaches, and probably a roster with 50% different players tan who she met in person. Without hearing/reading anything straight from Jatarie, there's just no way of knowing what is valid and accurate about her options.
I take the transfers and other recruits who have considered Texas, but are choosing to go elsewhere, as a sign of respect for the talent level that next season's roster will be loaded with.

Jatarie would be a Great pick up for us if Karen can pull it off! Fits right in with Kelsey's Graduation and the '17 class not really having any Big girls we are looking at!! Hope we can get Vivian Gray and either Chas Patterson or Carter to round out the 17 class. Would love to have walker of course but that may be very wishful thinking!!
Jatarie White would be a nice pick up at a position of need for 2017. If Texas doesn't get her Erin Degrate is transferring from Louisville. Coach Aston had some early interest in Erin and she's from right up the road in Waco. She would also be a nice fit for Texas at the center position.
Careful what you wish for. Degrate can't break the lineup on a good, not great, team without a true center.
I agree with Zig that Degrate is not that great an option! Hope Jatarie comes thru and gets healed up! She was a monster in high school!
I think a player like Degrate would fit perfectly into a system that uses their post like Coach Aston. I can't even remember the last time that Walz ran an system that focused on playing through the post.
Really hoping the tweet about Jatarie White visiting Texas this weekend is accurate. Based on all the transfer tweets the last few weeks (regarding players with an interest in Texas or vice versa) and none resulting in official visits (that we know of), I've learned to trust those reports coming a from a source like the player or their family members. She was definitely highly thought of in high school; if she can get healthy, there's a great chance she realizes her potential after a redshirt season. As for Degrate, I had a feeling she would leave Louisville for one reason or another; just didn't think it was the place for her. This tweet suggest SFA might be her destination:
I wasn't real impressed with her in HS... but I was thinking more in terms of depth at the true 5 spot. Jatarie White is the one I'd really love to have land at Texas.
A true post with the ability to score with her back to the basket is exactly what this team needs. Very good pick up and excited to have her as a longhorn.
Well that leaves us 2 openings for the 2017 recruiting class. Unless we have some attrition? That is a small class with a lot of good players I would like to see us get!! Really glad Karen got Jatarie though! I think she will be a good addition after her year out!!
Congrats to Jatarie and the coaching staff. Definitely worth adding to the program. Hopefully, health issues will be a thing of the past.
