Check out my avatar to understand where I stand on this. Baylor has now taken the place of OU on the team I love to see lose. Nothing would please me more than to see the Christian Bears (I can say this cause I lead a mens Bible study) get cornholed every week and fall to the level of SMU and be forced to give 2 tickets away for every double meat Whataburger sold in Waco just to get a 50% attendance.
DISCLAIMER: this is hearsay from another site but from what I read according to the girl that submitted the video.. This happened in June, Grobe who claims to have a zero tolerance policy found out, suspended the kid for two games for unspecified reasons, and the story was leaked last week, and now he being disciplined harshly.. Sound familiar?
If you haven't seen the vid, don't. What gets me , no way this kid is an upstanding citizen and made a mistake, there is a problem and BU chose to ignore it ...again. This isn't some kid rolling a J or getting popped for a minor in possession- this is a man with a problem and that problem was attempted to be swept under the rug.
    Wondering out loud- WWCD?

That is un-f'ing believable. And in video. What will be baylor's excuse for keeping him in the program? Oh yeah, the LHN and UT framed him...

Okay, I'll just stick my head in, and you guys can whip me with a belt....

From the 10-second video I saw--what that all there was?--this was not as bad as I was expecting from all the comments I heard beforehand. It was wrong, it was mean, it was out of control anger, it was bad. However, for example, it does not compare to Adrian Peterson beating his son worse than that, and even that situation had people with different perspectives. It's not drowning or electrocuting dogs, or making them fight. It also wasn't done out of some sociopathic warping, but out of anger. I've seen people hit horses in the face a lot harder than that, just to get their attention. Horse people.

TO BE CLEAR... it was wrong, it was mean, it demonstrates a person with very inappropriate behavior and anger problems. It does not compare to the domestic violence crimes we have seen over the past few years, or rapes, or killings, or other crimes.

My point is that when assessing the punishment, this incident should be put into perspective with others worse or not as bad. No matter how much you love your pet dog, I am sure you would let him take five shots to the face with a belt without hesitation before you would let your daughter be mistreated, if that was the tradeoff.

I do wonder what led the person filming it to do so--I assume this had either been already going on, or had in the past.

I agree with you in that it does not compare with Vick or the other rapes covered up by BU.
Regardless of that, and not withstanding the abuse to a defenseless animal and my disgust therof, this incident is a stand alone issue and yes deserves a lot more than a two game suspension against SMU and Rice.
This wasn't an incident where this guy was given an option to beat a girl or a dog- if it was of course he did the right thing.
Would you want your daughter to date or marry someone who did this or would you be concerned this may be a pattern?

How do the Baylor coaches work with this guy like nothing happened? How do his teammates look at them across the room without having a jaded opinion?
Are you telling me if Jim in the next cube to you was posted in a similar video - you would would be hunky-dory ? And based on the condition Baylor is in why the hell would they even take a risk on a guy like this?

I do admit, I have no respect for anyone who abuses children or animals.
How Vick got reinstated is still a mystery to me.

No I would not be okay with an acqaintance or friend doing that, and I would cross him off the date-my-daughter list.

If he were say a messenger in my law firm and I saw this, would I fire him? Not sure. If he were my lawyer and this was posted, I would fire him. If my son hit a dog like that, I would intervene into his life for sure ("son, you've got to get a handle on this or you are going to end up in jail or worse"). I wouldn't expect him to get fired or kicked out of college or lose a scholarship.

I don't know, I'm just thinking out loud.

My avatar likewise shows my position on this. When it is time for Snoop Doggy to go, I will need to hospitalized. NRHorn so correctly uses a word that should trump all others. "Pattern". My guess is that this is not the first time something like this has happened in this kids life. He plays a violent sport at a place where there are no boundaries. Would you want him to even be in your home? Violence does not just "appear". It is something that grows.

The petition to Baylor Alums should simply be: "Get him help or get him out of here".

Not as bad, or worse, than using a racial slur? Because people (non-athletes) have been permanently expelled for that.

I too am not going to watch the video. The way I love animals I know it will probably make me sick for a good while and I don't want to go through that. I do hope he gets dismissed though.

what had the dog done to irritate the jock?

I get tired of seeing people demand punishment for people for abusing animals and then look the other way when animals abuse people.

For example, lions have been having us for lunch for scores of thousands of years. We get fire and spears and things are evened up a little unless you live in some commune in lion country

Guns make the game more equitable and I never object to somebody shooting a lion; and I favor killing all wolves. NO more wolves at the door.

Too many people treat animals as if they are humans. They are not.

Dog ownership is unregulated and so a lot of aholes like this jock own them, don't know how to train or treat them and so the dogs sometime take a beating.

And sometimes you ride your bike down the street and these four legged territorials decide it is proper to take a chunk out of your leg. Shoot them all if they are not on a leash or behind a wall.

I am not an expert on human psychology, but it sure seems like this guy may have some anger/self control problems. I hope the dog is removed (at least for a while) and this young man gets some help.

Cruelty to animals is often a precursor to other, more serious problems. I hope Baylor will get this guy some help. Not that I have any faith in Baylor doing the right thing.

What's the big deal? All he did was spank his dog... according to Jim Grobe:

“He was just frustrated and spanked his dog for not being house trained. You just can’t do that. He knows that. He loves the dog and takes great care of the dog. Other than losing his temper with the dog, I think he’s taking pretty good care of it.”

Spanked him, or spanked him in the face with a belt multiple times?

See, when the full description of the action against the dog is written down, it makes Grobe's defense look exceptionally weak.

1 I think an investigation makes more sense than a unilateral dismissal. It's not accurate that all single acts of violence mean there are others.
It's whether baylor has the cajones to look honestly and report honestly, then discipline him fairly.
2 Baylor's issues not withstanding, I hope any kid gets a chance at redemption after a single instance of becoming physical when losing their temper. just separating the potential of this really being a single instance
3 if the video guy had the wherewithal to record this, something tells me this probably isn't the first time. And that's the issue for me, related to dismissal.

I signed it. On the Houston news they had the new Bailor coach talking how much this kid really liked the dog and did not mean to hit it that many times. You would have thought it was briles talking up the bs for him.

Hmmm, doesn't your point three disallow your point 1?
My concern was besides this guy beating a dog, I find it hard to believe this isn't a strong indicator of some other violent issues.
