hey everyone, came around the chats a little last year, a little late this year, work has kept me away. Hope you guys have a good season. Sunday should be a fun game. I do believe ND will come out on top, but i think it will be very close through 3 qts. and i think at the end it will be ND by 10. This ND team will be hard to figure out, so many injuries last year, doesn't really do a lot of good to judge them off of that. For what its worth, i think Kizer will be the QB this year and Zaire is there just to throw you guys off and mix things up.

I would guess Texas will load the box to try and stop ND's very good running backs and go man coverage on their very young receivers - and i think that is the best way to play them. Do you guys agree?

Last year on this board i said i was glad to be playing texas early instead of late in year and boy did that prove to be correct! Unfortunately for ND a lot of that momentum could carry over this year...

If you guys had some time i had a few questions going into this game...

I had assumed your stadium would be a pretty hostile place to go to, however, a recent podcast i was listening to indicated that it wasn't. Do you guys feel that it is? I don't consider ND a hostile place to play at all, but i think they are starting to change that.

Where do you Texas has the most advantage over ND? ND over Texas?

Notre dame's defense took a hit with the draft and arrests and spring injuries, but there are a lot of forgotten guys who were injured early last year that will bring some good talent back into this game. How good do you feel your offense will be this year?

I honestly feel that these 2 backs are the best combo of running backs that ND has had in 20 years. I am suspect of the O-Line, however, reports are they are pretty good and will be very good by the end of year. however, i think these running backs will win the game.

Not coming on here to talk trash thinking ND will win, a lot of respect for Texas and think they will be a very good team.

Good luck the rest of the season, just a little bad luck on sunday!

Define hostile? Rude fans, opposing fans spit on and cussed at? Blindly screaming even when we suck...No.

Loud with a lot of burnt orange- yes
    Great tailgate scene- yes
Respectful fans- yea most of the time.
It'll be plenty rowdy Sunday night, don't worry about that. There will be a home field advantage.

I see your running backs and I raise you a Warren and Foreman. IMHO if we are in it through the 3rd quarter I think we win. If you haven't blown us out of the water we are going to be better equipped to handle the heat, and fatigue of the game.

    Good luck

Sorry, i was assuming hostile as in crazy loud, messing with team communication, etc. What happens in the stands doesn't effect the games, just people being dumb. I was very suprised when they were talking about your stadium not being a difficult one to go play in, because everything i have seen on TV would show the opposite, so i have to believe the announce was mistaken.

I guess we will find out with the running backs... sounds like a lot of great ones on the field, should be fun.

the heat is a good point, what temperature should be expected in the 2nd half?

Prob around 90 degrees even if the sun goes down. The stadium will be deafening loud for a big game like that, hard to keep 100,000 Texans who have been tailgating all day quiet.
If you want the inside take- if Texas DL shows up its going to be a real dogfight. If we don't get a decent showing from our defensive line pencil in a W.
Also- if we start Swoopes and the lights turn off for him like they do in big games, go ahead and change the channel, it'll be a W

Thanks for coming back and posting amglenn1.

Weather forecast for Sunday is a high of 92 with 50% chance of rain, humidity 68%. Gonna still be around 90 at kickoff and very sticky - for both teams. Temps during the game will probably slowly drop into the low 80's. Hope the rain holds off and doesn't harm the game.

The game is a sellout and the UT fans in attendance will be pumped that ND is in town, so it will be very loud at times but I don't think DKR is an especially hostile place for visiting fans or players. However, the crowd for sure will be tuned into the game and try to disrupt ND play calling and communications at times.

If your attending from ND, the thing I should warn you about is our obnoxious scoreboard - not it's size but how loud it is and annoying with too many commercials and non game related stuff. Many of our fans think it takes away from the normal fan game behavior, the bands and the game itself at times. Fans have complained it is too loud for years....

Could be raining and 93 for a high, sunsets at 8:30ish so not much of a drop in temp. Hot and humid.

Rain could impact this game significantly.

GodzillaTron is a ******* abomination. You would think we have enough money that we could tell our advertisers, "We're going to turn the volume down to eleven. Feel free to look elsewhere for ad space if that bothers you."

At least they have moved the band correct? They used to be stuck right next to it, where you could never hear them.

The stadium should be pretty loud if for no other reason than we are "undefeated" and a big name opponent is in Austin. We could go all the way! :smile1:

If we have no points on the board and haven't been able to move the ball at all, and ND hits hashing big yard plays for TD's, that'll take some wind out of the sails. However, it would be the same at any stadium.
Up by 2 touchdowns in the middle of the 3rd, 14-28 the place will still be rocking

Hoping our young guys don't get caught up in the lights and the moment and just go out there and play.

One thing i have been wondering is what is your guys opinion of Coach Strong? Do you like him, love him, hate him?

I think Kelly is a really good coach, i think he has grown and learned alot for his first big time program and i do think if he were to stay at ND long enough he could build a team to make it to a national championship and compete this time. Not sure if he will or wont.

Depends on what day you ask us. He has shown some great stuff on the recruiting side and program management. I think jury is still out on his actual coaching and decision making. Most people are reserving judgment until after this season. He innherited a program with little talent and no unity. Then literally purged the program of what talent we had and started with a clean slate. It'll take time before he is fielding a team that is as experienced as 95% of the rest of NCAA teams. What he has done with the young young guys has been impressive. Can you imagine playing 16 of yalls freshman and beating OU and Baylor last year... With Swoopes as your QB?

Texas fans only get up for big games and this is the biggest game at home in a very very long time. It will be very loud and difficult. If you were Kansas or some UTEP, no not hostile at all but it is Notre Dame, we have a chip on our shoulder and we have way over developed expectations so it will be violently loud until we get behind then it will become crickets...

From a complete outsider point of view, so dont bash me too much if i am wrong, but it seems like As a person, a mentor and a recruiter i would give him an A+. I have yet to see his ability to develop young talent. From limited viewing, it seems like an on the field coach i would give him a B. But with everything else he has to offer and if he keeps good coaches around him, I think he could do really good things.

Major is right about it being one of the biggest UT home games in years and the chip on the shoulder factor re: ND.

If Texas gets a lead or stays close while remaining competitive that crowd will be very loud and stay with it. I suspect this young team will positively feed off that crowd energy and noise. If that happens watch out.

What happened in SB last year? Was it just a young team early in the year? Being on the road? Or was it just that ability to bounce back after getting behind? Because the team that got beat 38-3 was not at all the same team that beat baylor and oklahoma...

    Good question.

IMO deer in the headlights for some of the players - much younger team than this year. HUGE opener on the road against a very talented mostly Senior laden team. Too many mistakes early and when we got behind we did not have QB's that could effectively and consistently pass / move the ball. Coaches did not make good adjustments at the half. Just my .02

It's hot and humid in SB in the summer too and ND has a lot of players from TX so I just don't see the heat being a factor.

This game will be won or lost in the trenches. Yes, Texas has some great backs but I'm not sure how much you'll see it as the ND DL will likely have a major advantage over our very young and inexperienced OL.

You haven't spent much time in Texas in August have you... I have family that lives up "north" and I've been with them when it was "hot and humid" ... We redefine hot this time of year.
Your DL has an advantage but you won't stop our running backs only bringing 4 lineman all night. IF Texas can pass and keep the secondary and linebackers honest that's how we are going to run on you. If one of the backs find a hole they are a load to stop.
Our QB play and your Dbacks ability to man cover will determine how effectively you can stop the run.
However, I could be completely wrong here. We will find out Sunday.

Your right, it may not end up being a factor in the outcome of the game, if it does however, you may see some ND players (especially the D) start to gas and or cramp in the 4th quarter. Remember the UT offense will be in an up tempo offense most of the game.

As a side note: Over the years I have spent a fair amount of summer days in OH, MI and a little in IN. It does get "hot" and humid in those places but it's just not Texas HOT. There is a big difference in the summertime climates IMO.

Same thing with Wash. DC area where I lived for 2 years. When the locals where bitching & moaning on certain days how unbearably hot and humid it was , I sneered at them.

Ha! Grew up and spent most of my life in TX. But I've also lived in the midwest and spent a summer in Ft. Wayne, which is pretty close to SB. I've played beach VB in the sand on lake Michigan when it was 95 deg in August and the sand got so hot you had to wet it down to be able to play. Regardless of how much we like to brag about the heat in TX, southeast TX and IN aren't that much different in July and August.

No joke there, i ll be in the Dallas area in a few weeks and was there a year ago, gets crazy hot lol. My brother in law lives in Dallas now and plays more golf in December/January then august! I have spent time in the summers growing up in Alabama, Mississippi etc and it gets pretty bad

Once again good luck! Hope both teams make it through injury free. Just hope the irish come out on top. Like i said, i expect Texas to load the box and force our QBs to throw, which should bring Kizer in and he can definitely throw, just hope our receivers can catch, lol.

I expect Texas to come out trying to keep tempo and test our young and/or inexperienced DB's, could definitely see a lot across the middle or in the 8-12 yard range as our linebackers are new as well. Notre dame is going to have to get significant pressure if they hope to break that up.

I dont get to say this very often, but i do expect ND to have an advantage is special teams. Our field goal kicker is very good and think he will leave ND as the best they have ever had and our punter has a boot too, just wildly inconsistent last year. And they are actually starting to develop a return game that should bring them out of the bottom of the country in stats.

Should be a fun game and from my TV in south bend, im sure the atmosphere will look great. I gotta believe the ratings are going to be huge because of 2 name brand teams and everyone will be geared up from Saturday and no NFL and most have work off on Monday.

Take it easy and thanks for letting me hang around!

Welcome back to Hornfans and to DKR!

Imo the home crowd at DKR is loud but respectful. Not sure which section you are sitting in but the visitors sections and upper endzone seats will have 10K+ ND fans in attendance so you wont get lonely.

A night game of this magnitude and a full day of tailgating will result in some drunken fools on both sides. Also DKR has beer and wine sales inside the stadium so people will have their adult beverage of choice to consume.

Hopefully everyone will be seeing a great game and that will be where the fun is.

In case you do encounter said drunken idiot, look at the bottom right corner of the Godzillatron scoreboard in south endzone and you will see a text # to report the idiot before it has a chance to turn ugly. Via text message. Just text the section, row and seats and they will be addressed.

Welcome to Austin, welcome to DKR and enjoy the game.

    Go Horns!
